NPOV?

edit

As much as I find the article interesting and the person likeable, I don't think sentences like “In spite of extreme physical discomfort, he always remained in a blissful state. Despite comprehensive treatment by doctors and meticulous care by devotees and relatives, all efforts to save his body failed. On 9 April, 1901 (Chaitra Vad Pancham V.S. 1957), at Rajkot, he died in a state of complete awareness.” are neutral enough to be in an encyclopedia. What is a state of complete awareness? It sounds more like a religious conception than a neutral description of a person's state of mind. Same thing for “efforts to save his body”, it sounds loaded and partial to the idea that the body is nothing but a shell for a “soul” or such. “all efforts to save him” would be more neutral IMHO.

The article could also use some quotations for certain claims. Thisisabore (talk) 01:32, 2 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

I tried to make whole article to neutral point of view. Help improving it. --Nizil (talk) 01:04, 24 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

A neutral point of view or a western point of view? Problem is it is difficult to explain the "state of awareness" and yes it is a "religious concept" (not conception). Given that since this is about a religious figure, religious concept need to be expressed.

In the quest for making it a NPOV, the article has lost meaning (it has actually become meaningless).

I will have to dig through lot of non-english material and update the article.

Ideas for improvements.

edit

Can anyone provide ideas on how to improve this article. Thanks. Rahul Jain (talk) 17:55, 20 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

There had been very interesting events in his life time. there are many sources but most of them are unreliable. still like he was Shatavdhani, relation with gandhi and other spiritual leaders (eg. Dada Bhagwan) can be explored. works section expand. and ofcourse Reliable sources needed.. :) (AK jain added by me proved unreliable as you suggested earlier to me somewhere else) I am busy and on wikipedia:wikibreak so would not participate much.. regards..--Nizil (talk) 20:19, 28 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Shrimad Rajchandraji and Vitragsruta

edit

I would like to know from researcher as to when did Shrimad got to know about various Vitragsruta like Samaysar and other books of Aacharya Kundkund, Mokshamarg Prakas, etc... Shahkc1 (talk) 12:46, 3 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Shahkc1:, thank you for the interest. Talk pages are generally used to discuss improvement in the article and are not used as the discussion forums for the subject, according to Wikipedia policies. Still we don't know from currently cited sources when did he encountered various texts. Mostly likely between age of 11 and 15 years as he mastered/studied several subjects during those years. You are welcome to provide more information on him with references of books (See WP:RS). We need to expand the article with more information. Regards,-Nizil (talk) 05:52, 4 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

I thought these details may be included in the article. For a researcher, this would have been an important detail that may help understanding how Shrimad got religiously inspired. I'm thankful that you noted my views. Shahkc1 (talk) 16:43, 4 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Date of birth

edit

Glancing quickly, I'm seeing claims of both November 9 and 11. I'm not seeing anything that points to one over the other. --Ronz (talk) 15:55, 30 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

The date of birth is incorrectly captured as June 29 in the opening paragraph as well as the side panel. It is correctly mentioned as Nov 9 in the article body. Can we please rectify this? Thnx!

We need better references. --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 15:24, 1 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
I have kept 11 November as per Jainpedia reference. -Nizil (talk) 06:34, 10 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Various calendar confirms that Kartik Purnima was on 11 November 1867. See this and this.-Nizil (talk) 06:13, 5 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Expansion

@Jahnvijhaveri:, sorry I had to revert your additions because it was not according to Wikipedia guidelines. We stick to neutrality so do not write in devotional/promotional tone. Your expansion seem promotional in nature. WP:RS are types of references we accept. If you wish to improve/propose any addition. Please discuss here before adding. I will go through all your previou edits and readd if anything helpful. Regards,- Nizil (talk) 17:02, 28 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

I agree. WP:PROMO, WP:POV, and WP:MOS problems. --Hipal (talk) 18:10, 28 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your comments. I am new to editing on wikipedia but I have understood what your are saying. I have tried to use more neutral language in the additions i am proposing under each section below as these are important facts that would help a reader understand more about Shrimad Rajchandra. I have also tried to cite all the factual statements and have referenced the page numbers as well. Nonetheless, do let me know what other amendments need to be made! Thankyou for your cooperation and patience-

Family life: This is evidenced through his writings in “Mokshamala’, a 108 chapter short-text, which he wrote at the age of 16. Sharing his views on family life and spirituality, he writes “The pleasure, which I get from religion, conduct, morality and scriptural study, is indescribable. I have the aspiration to give up all types of connections.”

Business: Despite being a successful businessman, his focus remained on his spiritual pursuits. In Gandhi’s autobiographical book “The Story of My Experiments with Truth”, Gandhiji writes "Raichandbhai's commercial transactions covered hundreds of thousands. He was a connoisseur of pearls and diamonds. But these things were not the centre round which his life revolved. That centre was the passion to see God face to face…The man who, immediately on finishing his talk about weighty business transactions, began to write about the hidden things of the spirit could evidently not be a businessman at all, but a real seeker after Truth.I saw him thus absorbed in Godly pursuits in the midst of business, not once or twice, but very often. I never saw him lose his state of equipoise."

Last years: On the eve of departure he said to his brother, Manukhbhai, and others “Don’t worry, this soul is eternal, it is surely going to attain a very high state.”

In popular culture (adding on to Yugpurush the drama) Yugpurush’ was performed 1030 times in in 306 cities across the world. To educate a wide and diverse audience regarding the principles of Shrimadji which moulded Mahatma Gandhi’s character, the play was performed in Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi , Kannada, Bengali, Tamil & English and in India, USA, Canada, UK , Europe, UAE, Oman and Africa, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand etc. In addition to the Transmedia Gujarati Screen and Stage Awards for the Best Drama, Best Director and Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Yugpurush is bestowed with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Award 2017 for ‘Best Drama’! Yugpurush was also the first Indian event staged at the prestigious Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles where the world-famous Oscars Awards Ceremony are held. The play supported the cause of Shrimad Rajchandra Hospital – a new 200-bed multi-specialty charity hospital for the economically underprivileged in South Gujarat.

Please let me know if this is okay to be published or the revisions that need to be made. Thank You

In general, quotations like the ones proposed are problematic for the reasons already given. See also WP:QUOTE for more on the use of quotations. --Hipal (talk) 16:10, 29 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Jahnvijhaveri:. Please see all linked guidelines posted by Hipal. All your proposals violate Wikipedia guidelines. We cannot include long quotes like posted here. References are not according to WP:RS. And all your proposals tend to "glorify" Rajchandra which is not neutral either. Quotes such as "Don’t worry, this soul is eternal, it is surely going to attain a very high state." add no helpful biographical information to the article. I have whatchlisted this article so discuss here (no need to repost this on my talkpage). Hope you understand what we are trying to convey. Regards,- Nizil (talk) 04:52, 30 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
