Sleep hollow → Sleepy hollow (illness) Sleep Hollow (illness) – Most references I've viewed shows this subject/topic as using the word "Sleepy" with a "y" at the end. Higher quality references use "Sleepy" but there are others that use "Sleep". Although this illness has been disproven as something unique, likely either an airborne or water chemical contaminant, using the colloquial term is appropriate.   Oppose: Also, looking at the sources cited in the article, I didn't find any that call this illness "sleep hollow" (or "Sleep Hollow"). Most of them do not name it. One of them (Yahoo) refers to the village as "sleepy hollow" but does not name the illness that way. A hollow is ordinarily a place, not an illness, so it makes more sense to refer to the village this way. See wikt:hollow, which defines a hollow as "a small valley between mountains". Yahoo refers to the illnesss simply as "sleeping sickness" (with quote marks around the term). There is one cited source (Inquisitr) that refers to the illness as "sleepy hollow" (not "sleep hollow"), but it seems like a low quality source. We should strive to use more medically authoritative sources when discussing diseases, not just grab a neologism used in low-quality websites. —⁠ ⁠BarrelProof (talk) 07:43, 28 December 2022 (UTC)

  Gah! Yes, fouled that one up nicely, I meant Sleepy hollow (illness) (or capitalized Hallow Hollow since the moniker was probably culled from the story.)   I would still oppose that, since I have only found one source that uses that term for the syndrome (regardless of capitalization), and it is a low quality source (Inquisitr). I suggest something more simply descriptive, such as Sleeping sickness of Kalachi or Sleeping sickness of Kalachi, Kazakhstan. (The title of the Washington Irving story uses Hollow, not Hallow, but in either case, it is referring to a place.) —⁠ ⁠BarrelProof (talk) 00:06, 29 December 2022 (UTC)

  Oppose. This is not a distinct disease. It is important not to elevate it to that status by giving it a distinct article. It is a paragraph for another article. It could be folded into the Carbon monoxide poisoning article. It should not be called either Sleep Hollow or Sleepy Hollow, regardless of capitalization. There was a consensus just declared not to move this to Sleepy hollow (illness), but it is also clear that the current title is not appropriate. After reading the cited source about the chemical theory, there seems to be no clear evidence for it. No chemicals were identified; it was just a speculative suggestion based on epidemiology analysis. On the other hand, it's questionable whether the carbon monoxide poisoning hypothesis is really well proven or not as well, so I support Sleeping sickness of Kalachi, Kazakhstan. —⁠ ⁠BarrelProof (talk) 23:27, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
