Mozart's use of Sonata de chiesa

edit

Is the article referring to Mozart's "Church Sonatas"? Mozart's pieces are brief single-movement works that were indeed meant to be played in church. They were not multiple movement works in slow-fast-slow-fast format. Is there an ambiguity here that should be clarified? DavidRF 19:18, 3 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

"It is often mistakenly believed these sonatas were composed to be performed in religious ceremonies. In fact, symphonies written in the Sonata da chiesa form were frequently played during Religious ceremonies, . . ."

These are contradictory statements. Since Sonata da chiesa is frequently played during Religious ceremonies they were composed with the function to be performed in religious ceremonies.
