editI live in Central New Jersey and I am freaking out that Patriot Media is not carrying Sportnet NY24.149.191.42 16:34, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
SNY on Comcast
editIf anyone knows what channel(s) SNY is on Comcast television, please imput it into the infox box. I have looked and could not find it. --Zimbabweed 00:46, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
SNY article gets new category
editI have added SNY to Category:2006 establishments. The channel began transmission 16 March 2006, so it befits the article. SportsTime Ohio was also listed there, so I applied the treatment here.
The list has a lot of TV networks on it already, including The CW and My Network TV. -Tracker 00:03, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
Bill Webb
editJudging by the way the article currently reads, Bill Webb is the director ONLY for WB11 games. Watching the SNY games, however, Keith Hernandez and Gary Cohen make frequent references to him (there's a good shot by webby, etc.) Fix this? Bwysock 21:16, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
What the?
editThis article is pretty much an Ad.
Controversy
editA paragraph under this section reads
On March 31, 2008, Comcast systems in the Hartford area added the network to channel 98. Cox Communications systems in central and eastern Connecticut still continue to refuse to carry the network in any tier of service as of March 31, 2008. No reason has been given for this exclusion. On July 16, 2008, Comcast systems in the Hartford area moved SNY to channel 26 and it's HD simulcast on channel 218.
I understand that there may be controversy regarding Cox's refusal to air the channel, but what is so controversal about Comcast's placement (and channel position) in their line-up? This paragraph can be cut down significantly. Any objections/clarifications? Sme3 (talk) 13:19, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
Template
editI have created a template, similar to that of the YES Network, containing the programs and personalities from the network. Feel free to create articles for the individuals and programs. --Coingeek (talk) 02:51, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
Permission to move show articles back to SNY
editI think we should move articles on shows from this network back to the SNY page because these are local shows and they don't have much notability and SNY is not available all over the country and most of them don't have good reliable references. I'm requesting permission to do so. --What was this guy eating? (talk) 19:49, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

SportsNet New York → SNY (TV network) – Referred to by its abbreviation more than its full name. 2601:8C:4001:DCF4:4C1E:914D:7854:C5BF (talk) 03:10, 16 November 2015 (UTC) Relisted. Jenks24 (talk) 07:19, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose. Better to use the full name than an abbreviation. Spanneraol (talk) 13:43, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose per Spanneraol. But a redirect here from SNY (TV network) would make sense. Rlendog (talk) 13:52, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:NATURAL. -- Tavix (talk) 16:47, 1 December 2015 (UTC)

– SNY is not referred to as Sportsnet New York by the network or by viewers. They don't advertise that name. For ease of use SNY should be SNY on Wikipedia, matching up with on air branding and advertising. This matches up with WP:Criteria naturalness. Mannysoloway (talk) 13:05, 23 September 2021 (UTC) — Relisting. Adumbrativus (talk) 04:07, 2 October 2021 (UTC)
- Support move. It seems to be the primary topic for SNY as well. This would of course force the existing page there to move to SNY (disambigation). O.N.R. (talk) 13:24, 23 September 2021 (UTC)
- Move to SNY (TV network) instead. To be a devil's advocate after looking at the other links on the current SNY disambiguation page: I would assume that there are also a lot of stock traders around the world who are using Wikipedia as a resource, given the amount of articles in Category:Stock market. So I would assume there would be a fair amount of worldwide readers entering stock ticker symbols in the search engine, as a short cut to look up the Wikipedia articles on specific companies. Otherwise, we would not have something like Template:R from stock symbol. The stock ticker symbol "SNY" for Sanofi is probably no exception, and the multinational company tends to get higher page views than the U.S. sports network. [1] Thus under WP:TITLEFORMAT, the "SNY" abbreviation may still ambiguous for most readers outside the U.S. Zzyzx11 (talk) 02:29, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose both. Nom is quite simply incorrect that SNY is not referred to as Sportsnet New York by the network or by viewers. See [2] [3] and many, many more. This appears to be a corporate rebranding. The move should not take place unless we have evidence that reliable secondary sources are now using the new preferred name. There may be a case of primary topic, but it has not been made yet. Andrewa (talk) 07:34, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
- Andrewa a logo fandom site and a third party TV guide are not reliable sources. Mannysoloway (talk) 19:46, 16 October 2021 (UTC)
- Support. There is no other item on the dab page named "SNY", only a few codes. The network may not be well-known outside of the US, but then, we should cater to the majority of readers wherever they come from (New Yorkers are humans, too). Even the stock traders can still reach the Sanofi page with an additional click. No such user (talk) 12:41, 19 October 2021 (UTC)
- The multinational company still tends to get higher page views than the U.S. sports network.[4] If "we should cater to the majority of readers wherever they come from", then this SportsNet New York page should be reached "with an additional click" instead. Zzyzx11 (talk) 04:55, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
- It's not of much relevance if the multinational company is not commonly referred to as "SNY" by the public, and I don't see that being the case. Speaking for myself, I certainly do not navigate around Wikipedia using stock market symbols. I've occasionally searched by airport codes, but I certainly would not be WP:ASTONISHed if their TLA leads to an unrelated topic. No such user (talk) 09:28, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
- My other reason still stands regarding "Avoid ambiguous abbreviations" of WP:TITLEFORMAT. There does not seem any worldwide (not just U.S.-centric) evidence either way that convinces me that "the subject is known primarily by its abbreviation and that abbreviation is primarily associated with the subject". Thus, I would prefer to error on the status quo. Zzyzx11 (talk) 00:53, 23 October 2021 (UTC)

SportsNet New York → SNY (TV network) – Sportsnet New York is no longer commonly used in reliable sources. See [5], [6], [7], [8], and [9]. Esolo5002 (talk) 02:18, 28 November 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. echidnaLives - talk - edits 10:11, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
- Support move. Same rationale as last RM; the initialism is by far the common name at this point. O.N.R. (talk) 02:40, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
- Relisting comment. It would be good to see some more participation from people who were involved in the September RM. Pinging Zzyzx11, Andrewa, Mannysoloway and No such user. echidnaLives - talk - edits 10:11, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
- Move to SNY as the first choice, or SNY (TV network) as the second. I still don't see anything on the dab page nearly as notable as the TV network, and no other article is even titled "SNY". The TV network dominates first several pages of Google search and News search and is the clear primary topic for "SNY". Only a few news hits in media such as Yahoo Finance refer to Sanofi for its stock code, but "SNY" is not even mentioned in its article. No such user (talk) 11:16, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
- Support per nom.--Ortizesp (talk) 14:42, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
- Support moving to the parenthetical disamig title per my comment in the previous RM. I still would prefer to error on keeping the current SNY disambiguation page, with no primary topic. Zzyzx11 (talk) 01:49, 6 December 2022 (UTC)
- Move to SNY. Obvious primary topic. — Amakuru (talk) 12:59, 13 December 2022 (UTC)
- Move to SNY (and subsequently move the current disambiguation page to SNY (disambiguation)). As others have said, clear primary topic based on page views and implausibility of using "SNY" for the other entries on the disambiguation page in common speech. That is to say, none of the other entries have "SNY" as their WP:COMMONNAME, and none of them could possibly be remotely considered as things found at the undisambiguated name, so there's zero reason not to use that here where it's the clear primary topic. oknazevad (talk) 04:20, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
