Description

edit

This article would cover all Fife-related articles such as places, famous people, museums, football and rugby clubs and churches to name a few. Examples would be: Kirkcaldy, Andrew Carnegie, Adam Smith, Dunfermline Abbey, Dunfermline Athletic, The Old Course and Kirkcaldy Museum and Art Gallery. This could also help support articles that really do need a lot of work while keeping general maintenance. Examples would be: Methil, Dunfermline, Cupar and a lot of the smaller towns such as Kennoway and Lower Largo. St Rules Tower section

edit

I find the way the St Rules tower section is written very odd. I am pretty new to Wikipedia editing, but I didn't think it was usual to say things such as "beautifully built". Though I haven't extensively looked for them myself, the lack of sources in this section makes it difficult to do further research. Can someone more experienced than myself confirm that these things need changing, and I will try to edit it when I have a little more time?

Mis-Captioned Illustrations

edit

Two of the photographs used to illustrat this article on ‘’St Andrews Cathedral’’ have been mis-captioned in such a way as to mislead the reader as to the position, function, and date of construction of an important surviving piece of the ruined structure.

The photographs in question are those captioned “St Rule's Tower and remains of St Rule's Church's western turrets as seen from the former courtyard. Photo taken on June 12th, 2023.” and “Recent view of the St Rule's Tower, remains of St Rule's Church's western turrets and the graveyard beneath, 10 October 2022.

In both cases the structure referred to as “St Rule’s Church’s western turrets” is, in fact, the ruined eastern wall of the later cathedral, having no connection whatever to St Rule’s Church. Careful examination of the photograph captioned “East tower of St Andrews Cathedral and St Rule's Tower” shows the considerable distance and off-set between the two structures.

Both mis-captioned photographs are the work of Steven1991, and on 8th October 2023 I placed a note on the Talk page of Steven1991 suggesting that they correct the two captions, as I could not see who else could do so. I added that if nothing was done I would have to draw attention to the errors on the article’s own Talk page. As I have seen no response by Steven1991 I feel I have to point out the misleading captions in this note. ShropshirePilgrim (talk) 00:57, 29 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Following a request by the original uploader of the two images in question (Steven1991) I have corrected the captions to both images. Unfortunately, one of the images retains (at least for the present) a misleading reference to the supposed "St Rue's Western turrets" in the file title, which I know of no way to alter/edit. Any tips on how to do so would be very welcome. ShropshirePilgrim (talk) 12:21, 18 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
