Fair use rationale for Image:Bank of the West Classic logo.jpg

edit

Image:Bank of the West Classic logo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Request for wider input on discussion at WikiProject Tennis

edit

There is a long, ongoing discussion at WP:Tennis about the tournament tables found in tennis articles on English-language Wikipedia (e.g., this type of table). The discussion is about whether the "official sponsored name" of a tournament - such as Pacific Life Open - or another tournament name without the sponsor - such as Indian Wells Masters - must be used in those articles. Please join the discussion here. Thanks. Tennis expert (talk) 08:53, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Stanford ClassicSilicon Valley Classic – As indicated in the current introduction to the article, the name (and location) of this tennis tournament has changed from the Stanford Classic to the Silicon Valley Classic. • Oppose but would not object to relisting. There are two questions here, one has been raised above (is this really the same event, rather than better treated as a new one). But even if this is answered in the affirmative (and that means by other than primary sources of course) there's still the question of whether this name change is adopted by secondary sources. We do not necessarily follow changes to official name. Andrewa (talk) 08:24, 20 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Support - As we have moved closer to the event it appears new sources have appeared. The event considers itself an extension of the Stanford Classic with a source right here. The WTA also considers it an extension since it names the last years champion, with a source right here. And news sources are also switching to Silicon Valley Classic, sources are here, here, here, etc. Because of this new info my question above has been answered. Also, it is true that we don't always move an article because of a tennis event name change. Look at the Pacific Coast Championships which had a bunch of name and location changes. But it was always on the Pacific Coast and that non-sponsored name could reasonable encompass all the event name changes. This event is no longer in Stanford... it's 22 miles away on a different campus... but all the venue/name changes for this event are in the Silicon Valley.
