Stephen Lee (disambiguation)Stephen Lee – disambiguation page - page name is free now. --Franta Oashi (talk) 11:03, 3 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • Support BUT all the incoming links to Stephen Lee will need to be fixed to Stephen Lee (snooker player), otherwise we will have a ton of broken links. I am prepared to help with this, but it should be done BEFORE the disambiguation page is moved to the base name. Also, I moved the article back to "Stephen Lee" because Oashi requested a merge between the article and redirect so I have asked for a speedy deletion of the redirect. The overall proposal is sound, but let's undertake it in a more orderly fashion from here on in. Betty Logan (talk) 15:55, 3 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
    • Comment: If the disambiguation page is moved to the base name, then the incoming links will be able to be fixed rather quickly via the WP:DPL tool (link to tool). (However, the tool only works on disambiguation pages with incoming links, so this move would have to happen first. Note: I'm not endorsing not fixing the links beforehand, but rather pointing out that there are alternative ways in Wikipedia to resolve incoming links to disambiguation pages.) • Question: With all those hundreds of incoming links, why isn't the snooker player the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC? A few of the other Stephen Lees have about a hundred links, but nowhere near as many. Why was Stephen Lee moved to Stephen Lee (snooker player)? I can find no move discussion. — Gorthian (talk) 17:22, 4 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Pageviews also heavily favor the snooker player. If you change the chart to a pie chart, you see that well over half the total views are for his article. — Gorthian (talk) 17:32, 4 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Over half the views are for an article called "Stephen Lee", which isn't quite the same thing; since the snooker player is at the base name he will get some of the incoming traffic for the other articles too. Collectively, all the articles called "Stephen Lee" get around 8,000 views per month, with a 5:3 split between the main article and the others. It is not really clear how many visitors to the base name are looking for one of the other articles. To be sure that the snooker player is the primary topic the base article would need to be getting at least two-thrids of the combined number of visitors, which it is not doing. The only way to be sure is to complete the move, fix the links, and review the situation in a few months. Betty Logan (talk) 18:42, 4 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Ah, good points. I'm always missing the forest for the trees. Thanks. — Gorthian (talk) 19:09, 4 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Oashi: The consensus is to move the article as you can see above, but this means that all incoming links need to fixed. As I stated above I am happy to help with this and have made a start, but there's a lot to do for just one person, so as the initiator of the move would you be willing to pitch in?
