Do we really need this cumbersome name? --MacRusgail 20:18, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
On 14 September 2022, it was proposed that this article be moved to Strathmore. The result of the discussion was Moved to Valley of Strathmore. |
Not glacial?
edit"Strathmore was formed by glacial processes in earlier ice ages". I have seen different claims about the origin of the valley. I think someone with knowledge of geology should check this claim. Maproom (talk) 13:39, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
- The reference to Louis Agassiz is more of historical interest than anything. Agassiz was one of the first to recognise that Scotlands' landscape owes much to the former presence of ice but I don't think that the text formerly in place (and quoted above) which derive from his work really added much to our understanding of the place's evolution. Strathmore like the rest of Scotland will have been over-run by ice during successive ice ages and its modern appearance reflects not only this but also various postglacial fluvial processes too and indeed originates with geological structures put in place perhaps 400-450 million years ago during the Caledonian orogeny. Most major landscape features are are of multiple origin, though one or two processes may be the dominant ones. The article could of course use much more attention from a geologist more familiar with the area. cheers Geopersona (talk)
Old capital?
editI removed the text telling us that Strathmore was an old capital of Scotland. Strathmore couldn't have been so - it's a hugely extensive tract of land, not a settlement. Perhaps someone with more knowledge of Scotland's history could provide some material around its history. cheers Geopersona (talk) 06:38, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

– The valley of Strathmore extends well beyond the bounds of Angus and even stretches as far as Dunbartonshire by some definitions, so the current title is rather misleading. My preferred solution is to make this article the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC; there are a number of minor places named Strathmore around the world, but none of them share the significance of this large region of Scotland. This is borne out by (for example) a search of Google Books, which returns many references to the Scottish Strathmore but none to any of its namesakes. Zacwill (talk) 10:34, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose it doesn't seem to be the primary topic, this one has 245 vies but the Albert one has 805, the Victoria one has 363, the Maryland one has 255, the California one has 136, the Syracuse one has 94, the Sutherland one has 91, the Killiney one has 60, the New Jersey one has 50 and the New Zealand one has 23[[1]]. Perhaps instead move to Valley of Strathmore per the Gazetteer for Scotland even if tautological which would resolve the multiple council areas problem. Crouch, Swale (talk) 11:05, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
- One potential issue with your suggested title is that it isn't unambiguous. There is another, albeit smaller valley of Strathmore on the north coast. Zacwill (talk) 14:59, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
- There's probably a better case for this one being primary for "Valley of Strathmore" as opposed to "Strathmore". Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:53, 14 September 2022 (UTC)

- Support Valley of Strathmore per above.--Ortizesp (talk) 14:41, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose as proposed per lack of primary topic but the countersuggestions sounds nice Red Slash 18:17, 21 September 2022 (UTC)
- Support Valley of Strathmore. Nom is correct that current title is misleading. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 17:59, 24 September 2022 (UTC)
