Incorrect plural form
editI think I introduced the plural form Somon here myself, because I found it a German-Mongolian dictionary. Now I found out that this is wrong, and was probably inspired by a russian form of the word. The correct plural in Mongolian is Сумууд, Sumuud.
Sumuud is a regular plural form, like Aimguud for Aimag. The question now is which plural form to use in the english language:
- Sum, for both singular and plural (probably what we'll do in German)
- Sums, the english standard plural form
- Sumuud, the mongolian standard form, that we then need to explain to the readers.
Any opinions? --Latebird 13:04, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
- I reset "somon" as the main term, because, since it is a type of division of Buryatia, Russia, it would be more likely that readers would be searching for a Russified form anyway. Of course, if additional information on usage surfaces later, this may (again) need to be changed.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 21:59, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
