"It is a popular city in South Korea for education, transportation, and its beautiful people and nature. Located in the province of Jeollanam-do, Suncheon is the 2nd least noisy city in South Korea as well as an excellent place to live . . . "
????
Beautiful people? Popular city in South Korea? Excellent place to live? The language needs to be changed in many places. --MerkurIX(이야기하세요!)(투고) 07:15, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
- There is a lot of bias in the article. I like Suncheon as much as the next guy---I live there---but to use words like beautiful, popular, transportation hub, etc., is a bit much. Suncheon is perhaps well-known in Jeollanam-do as these things, but no evidence exists to suggest that the rest of Korea gives a damn. I did hear that Suncheon was voted "Most Livable City" something like 4 years ago, but unless somebody can produce a link, we ought not to go on hearsay. Also, some of the information here, besides being speculative, is factually wrong. I suggest you get rid of the garbage in the introduction, or else I will. SolitaryThrush 01:21, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
I didn't mean that the rest of korea gives a damn.
editIt's just because, beautiful people as the proverb says 'Don't boast of your face in suncheon (Because historically, Japanese plndered good people and valuable stuffs throughout Korea and stored them in their castle in Suncheon, but they all remainded here when Yi-sunshin defeated them) , don't boast of your money in Yeosu, don't boast of your power in Beolkyo', and suncheon is popular for many things such as sweet persimmons, beautiful people, convenient transportation, education, etc. and, It is an evidence that Suncheon is the quietest city in Korea on this article [1] according to the reserach done by the Ministry of Environment. and, It shows that Suncheon is the 2nd livable city in Korea [2] for the research done by 'country&city project institute, CCEJ, and Jungang newspaper company supported by the Ministry of Construction and Transportation.
P.S. Well, I think it's hard to afford proofs for everything. But I tried my best to do it. and I think it's ok to say like this for being positive is better than being pessimistic. cause, I'm not doing this for my own benefit but only for introducing my city as nice as possible.
- Fair enough. I thank you for writing on this discussion page and for showing a couple of articles. You obviously care about doing your city proud. I'm also interested in collecting information on Suncheon, especially since I now live there, and there really isn't much quality information in English on the area. I think there might be a better way, a more encyclopedic way, to write the introductory paragraph, but I'm a little too busy tonight to do it. I'll take another look tomorrow, type up a sample on this page, and see what you (all) think.
- p.s. I normally do my wriiting on the Galbijim Wiki, a wiki entirely about living and working in Korea. Have a look around some time if you're bored . . . I've tried my best to build up the Jeollanam-do stuff as much as possible . . . as you know there's almost no English information about it. http://wiki.galbijim.com/Portal:Jeollanam-do SolitaryThrush 11:39, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, late reply
editWow. I didn't know that Galbijim site was for those people living in Korea. I just thought It would be something like commercial stuff. anyway, I am happy you got what I have intended. Do you wanna talk to me on MSN ? byeonggwan@hotmail.com because, I don't really get what more encyclopedic way would be like and how to write the introductory paragraph. So, I just think it'd be better to talk on msn freely before doing this and I can help you whatever you want if I can as well. I will wait for your add. -byeonggwan- —Preceding unsigned comment added by Byeonggwan (talk • contribs) 19:07, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Suncheon logo.gif
editImage:Suncheon logo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

The result of the move request was: Move. There's a rough consensus that the South Korean city is the primary topic of the name Suncheon, and that the differences in the Latin spelling are sufficient for disambiguation. Additional disambiguation can be handled through a hat note. Cúchullain t/c 16:33, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
– Suncheon is different from Sunchon. If there are only two topics to which a given title might refer, and one is the primary topic, then a disambiguation page is not needed. Use a hatnote on one article, pointing to the other article. WP:TWODABS. Relisted. BDD (talk) 22:29, 2 January 2013 (UTC) Sawol (talk) 04:28, 29 November 2012 (UTC)
- Oppose - sorry but the SK 순천 and the NK 순천 are spelled the same in Korean (as you'd expect given that they're both the same Sino-Korean names SK 順天 and NK 順天) and neither gets consistent romanization in English. No benefit from removing the province names. In ictu oculi (talk) 04:57, 29 November 2012 (UTC)
- Here is English Wikipedia, not Korean. Suncheon is different from Sunchon. NK Sunchon uses 順川. Their province names are in hatnotes respectively. We obtain the same benefit as a disambiguation page in the worst case. Now, compare between Chorwon, Cheorwon. Sawol (talk) 06:27, 29 November 2012 (UTC)
- Sawol, sorry but you are mistaken, NK Sunchon does not use 順川 any more than SK Sunchon 順川 does. Both use identical SK 순천 and the NK 순천, both are identical in McCune-Reischauer: Sunch'ŏn, or identical in whatever other romanization of Korean any printed source applies. Which means an English book on the Korean War will have armies going up from Sunch'ŏn to Sunch'ŏn, and down from Sunch'ŏn to Sunch'ŏn, since authors don't switch their romanization system mid-book. Hatnotes are not enough "titles should be precise enough to unambiguously define the topical scope of the article, but no more precise than that," per WP:PRECISION - the title you're proposing is ambiguous because it depends on the (highly dubious) assumption that an English reader will spot an artificial difference in a romanization system, when neither SK nor DPRK have their own consistent systems, let alone British, American and Australian authors. I ask again, what benefit does removing the province add to users? Cheers In ictu oculi (talk) 07:39, 29 November 2012 (UTC)
- I know your explanation already. Suncheon, South Jeolla is 順天, Sunchon, South Pyongan is 順川. It is wrong that they're both the same Sino-Korean names. Roman alphabet Suncheon, Sunchon are different. They're both the same Korean names only. If an Wikipedia user knows this difference, s/he has no problem. Although s/he don't know, s/he read one article and then s/he can see the desired or undesired thing. So at least two pages are OK. Users' benefit is the same as a disambiguation page. But using the disambiguation page, an Wikipedia user knowing this difference also has to pass two pages. Here there is different benefits between with the disambiguation page and without it. In ictu oculi, why can't you say anything about Chorwon, Cheorwon? Sawol (talk) 10:36, 29 November 2012 (UTC)
- Please re-read what I said above. Cheers. In ictu oculi (talk) 14:49, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

- Support. If you google suncheon -wikipedia or sunchon OR suncheon -wikipedia, the South Korean city is the clear primary topic. For September, it got 1234 page views, while the North Korean city got 589. No one calls the North Korean city "Suncheon", so there is not really even a conflict. Sawol,
Here's the WP:PRECISION problem:
"The six facilities are Chongjin, East Pyongyang, Pukchang, Pyongyang, Sonbong, and Suncheon. According to KEDO, the facilities are thermal power plants with no purpose other than the production of electricity and heating." Gene Aloise - Nuclear Nonproliferation: Implementation of the U. S. North Korean Agreement Page 14 1997

NK source using SK spelling for the NK Sunchon, SK source using NK spelling for the SK Sunchon. We can't rely on even 2012 South Korean-written English sources using the new orthography. We can't rely on sources talking about NK using the old orthography. In ictu oculi (talk) 12:13, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
- The two cases may be typos. Your concerns can be covered by using the hatnote as previously stated. Sawol (talk) 10:48, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
- Support. Unnecessary disambiguation. To the extent (if any) that this is a disambiguation case, handle it with hatnotes per WP:TWODABS. As long as each is clear in the header about which it is, and how to get to the other, there is no issue. --Born2cycle (talk) 01:09, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
- Comment There are several examples about this concern. They are Kosong and Goseong, Yonggwang and Yeonggwang, Chorwon and Cheorwon in North and South Korea, respectively. No disambiguation page. Sawol (talk) 10:43, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
- Er.. Goseong is a disambiguation page. ~Amatulić (talk) 18:59, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
