Contradictions on location of death
editThis article has Brubeck dying in two different towns. (1) At his home in Wilton, CT; and (2) on the way to the doctor in Norwalk, CT. The cites to the Wilton location are (1) a recordnet.com article about the death of his wife Iola (not Dave); and (2) to a preview of a book, on Google books, no page of which that is now displayed states that he died in Wilton. I guess someone could look up the hard copy of the book, but the page cite is listed as pp. 393-___. Page 393 can be viewed on Google and the fact it's cited for (Brubeck's death and location) is not to be found on that page. The book isn't even about Brubeck, or Connecticut, or the time when Brubeck died. It's called Golden Dreams: California in an Age of Abundance, 1950-1963. Dave Brubeck Five
editThis article mentions the Dave Brubeck Quartet, but should mention them in the earlier sections of the article. Also, weren't the Dave Brubeck Quartet at one time known as the Dave Brubeck Five, because they at one time had five members? Vorbee (talk) 19:55, 1 January 2021 (UTC)
GA?
editI don't think this has much chance of passing a GA review in its current state. There are multiple unsourced paragraphs; the lead doesn't summarise the body; there's little (sourced) on his playing style or compositional style; and the final 44 years of his career are covered in 5 sentences. There's s a lot of work required. EddieHugh (talk) 17:33, 10 October 2022 (UTC)

Hello. Thank you for submitting this article to GAN. As this article has been waiting for over six months, I thought I take a look at it. At first glance, I see a lot of issues in regards to Wikipedia:Good article criteria #2 Verifiable with no original research. Here are my comments about specific issues for this criteria and other comments:
Criteria #2b: reliable sources
edit- Jbspins.com is a Blogspot website. Per WP:USERGENERATED, another source should be used for the A Great Night in Harlem concert.
- Together We Served seems to be an user generated website as the bottom of the page says that it's not a government source. This source could be removed as the adjacent source (Artslink.co.za) has the cemetery confirmed.
- Saxontheweb.net is a forum. This should be replaced to confirm whether May 4 is Dave Brubeck Day and that Take Five was his most famous work.
Criteria 2c: original research
editUnsourced entire paragraphs
edit- Military service 2nd paragraph (5 sentences)
- Dave Brubeck Quartet 1st paragraph (2 sentences)
- Time Out 4th paragraph (2 sentences)
- Later work
- 2nd paragraph (2 sentences)
- 3rd paragraph (7 sentences)
- 4th paragraph (2 sentences)
- 5th paragraph (2 sentences)
- Later career 1st paragraph (1 sentence)
Unsourced partial paragraphs/sections
edit- Dave Brubeck Quartet 2nd paragraph (1 sentence)
- Time Out 3rd paragraph (1 sentence)
- Later work 1st paragraph (1 sentence)
- Family 2nd paragraph (1 sentence)
- Religion (1 sentence)
- Awards (8 of them)
Criteria 2d: copyright violations
edit- I'm not 100% sure about the copyright status of File:Davebrubeckquartet1967a.jpg in the Later work section. The file description says "scan from own work". Per Commons:Copyright rules by territory/United States, it is essential to know whether or not there was a copyright notice for this 1967 work. If there was not a copyright notice, then it is in the public domain. If there was a copyright notice, then this has a copyright of 95 years and not public domain until 2063.
- While I have not done a full copyright violation check, I did see copying with "the oldest and most prestigious honor given to American Catholics, during the university's commencement". This needs to be either reworded or removed as it's copying Notre Dame.
Other comments
edit- There are page numbers missing for the following book citations:
- It's About Time: The Dave Brubeck Story (Ancestry and early life section)
- Golden dreams: California in an age of abundance, 1950–1963 (Ancestry and early life section)
- The Grammy Lifetime Achievement award should be moved down from the Religion section to the Recognition section. It's currently uncited as well.
Overall
editWhile I have not performed an in-depth review of all 6 criteria, I am very concerned about the large amount of uncited material. I also noticed that these uncited material were there on the last edit before this article was nominated at GAN. With the 4 uncited paragraphs at the Later work section, these make 14 uncited sentences alone. I am also concerned about the 5 sentence uncited paragraph at the Military service section and the 8 uncited points in the Awards section. With these three parts, I will have to quickfail this article per WP:GAFAIL as there are a lot of uncited points that makes this far from passing Criteria 2c: original research. I hope this review does not discourage you from working on this article and resubmitting it again once the reliable sources, original research and copyright violations have been resolved. Thank you for submitting this article to Good Article Nominations.
