Disambiguation needed

edit

The Huntington Library does refer to itself as The Huntington with a subtitle of "Library, Art Collection and Botanical Gardens." As a lifelong Pasadena area resident, I know that familiarly the locals call the Hotel and the Hospital "the Huntington." If we get up articles on those two other locations, the disambiguation will be necessary for the readers. It will have to be The Huntington Hotel and the Huntington (Memorial) Hospital. And I'll probably be writing those articles. Magi Media 13:25, 20 May 2006 (UTC)Magi MediaReply

Fair use rationale for Image:IMG yellowlily.JPG

edit

Image:IMG yellowlily.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Extremely restritive permitting requirements

edit

You should probably mention the EXTREMELY restrictive and highly expensive (even for students and amateurs) permitting requirements that the people seem to have ($100+ daily for still photographers and $1000+ plus for video)

Please expand botanical garden section

edit

Seriously, a list of movies filmed there but not a list or description of the (non-desert) species of plants preserved/growing? Yikes. 120 acres of botanical beauty deserves better than this. Even a paragraph would greatly enhance that section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.77.244.206 (talk) 08:12, 11 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Actually, there are several articles on most (but not all) of the botanical gardenS. I recently started the Desert Garden page; about half the gardens still lack specific articles. --Pete Tillman (talk) 16:01, 11 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Requested move

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: page moved. Strong consensus that the existing name is not correct; The one objection is essentially a counter proposal and has received no support. Andrewa (talk) 16:39, 22 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

The Huntington LibraryHuntington Library

Library commonly referred to without the "The". Relic of improper initial naming, when it was named "The Huntington" Purplebackpack89≈≈≈≈ 18:07, 14 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

But that's not its common name. It is also been discouraged from having "The" as the first word in an article title. Furthermore, calling this article "The Huntington" has been repudiated by the community. Please familiarize yourself with naming conventions before commenting further Purplebackpack89≈≈≈≈ 22:59, 14 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
As I said above, calling this article "The Huntington" has been repudiated, and it violates use of "the" in titles. Also, in my experience (I was born less than five miles away from the Huntington Library, at Huntington Hosp., and have lived in SoCal for 22 years), most people I've talked to, in or out of academics, refer to it as the "Huntington Library"

Requesting changes

edit
Use of the collection for research is restricted to qualified scholars, generally requiring a doctoral degree or at least candidacy for the PhD, and two letters of recommendation from known scholars.
+
Researchers ages 18+ may use the Library’s reading rooms to consult the collection upon establishing a research need that requires the use of The Huntington’s collections, identifying specific materials, and presenting the required form(s) of identification at orientation.

Not done It has not been delineated how the requested change to the information differs from what is already stated. For example, the requested changed info states "upon establishing a research need that requires the use of the Huntington's collections", but does not state how that "need" differs from the needs already stated in the article.  Spintendo  20:18, 30 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
