Regarding the quote by Rudyard Kipling, as provided in this article

Hello. The quote by Rudyard Kipling in the "Law of the Jungle" article is woefully truncated. I'm attempting to provide the full and proper quote as indicated in the previous line about the poem being a code of law for the animals of the jungle. I would have the quote accurately in place and formatted properly if you had not undone my revision. If you would like to help me format it more appropriately, please be my guest. Hello, thanks for your concern over your recent edits to The Law of the Jungle. The reason that I reverted your edits is because I believe the entire quote is unnecessary to include in the entire article. My reasoning for this is even though it is indeed the full quote, the article deals with only addressing the "Law of the Jungle" and it's purpose and meaning, which can be understood with only four lines as it is. If you feel as if the entire quote is necessary to understand the meaning of the "Law of the Jungle" you may request that this option be considered in Law of the Jungle's talk page. As Touch of Light indicates, I have created this section in the talk page. As the article itself is attempting to use this poem as an example of an animal code of law, I thought it would be pertinent to provide the actual, full text of the poem where it does so, rather than merely the introduction. I felt the introduction by itself was considerably lacking for this purpose because it does not provide any of the guidance or strictures from the poem. In short, the poem is being used as an example, but none of the parts where the poem provides that example are offered on the page.

I will admit to some difficulty concerning the spacing in the text. The lines of the poem are supposed to be paired in a series of 19 couplets, 38 lines in all. However, I do not seem to be able to do so without Wikipedia's formatting system creating a single line out of each couplet where there should instead be two. If anyone knows the particular formatting to make the poem's lines display appropriately, please update the formatting.

Also, if someone would be so kind as to add a scholarly citation for the text of the poem, I would appreciate that. Sadly, I only have the text available to me as I keep it with me; my physical copy of the book has long since been loaned away, without return.

Oh, and I almost forgot. The quoted poem, "The Law For The Wolves" also goes under the name "The Law Of The Jungle" depending on source and printing. For example, when provided as a stand alone poem, the title is often "The Law For The Wolves" however, when it is published as a work within The Jungle Book, it is often referenced as "The Law Of The Jungle." Someone removed the entire text of the poem a few days ago, so I reverted those changes and restored it. That is the original source material and the origin of the phrase, so I also believe that text merits continued inclusion here.

However, I agree with the issues highlighted on this article that the article is too short and would benefit from additional scholarly discussion, examples, citations, and additional material. The 'law of the jungle' is also a philosophical concept and a moral principle. Is there nothing we can use to provide additional relevant information that would help describe this concept more completely?

It's not enough to describe the origins of the quote or the concept, we should also have some material discussing the way it is used and interpreted. RosewoodV (talk) 10:22, 29 July 2023 (UTC)

Hi @RosewoodV, I understand the importance of the source, but Wikipedia is explicitly not a repository of source material. We have a direct link to the poem and that's appropriate for an encyclopedia. BappleBusiness^[talk] 03:25, 31 July 2023 (UTC)
