The Meyerowitz StoriesThe Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) – Correct title, from the official Cannes selection, where the film premieres. — Film Fan 12:23, 17 April 2017 (UTC) --Relisting. Regards, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk • mail) 01:54, 25 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose This is a festival title, and there's nothing to suggest it's the correct title. You need to find other sources that back this up. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:31, 17 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Opppose. The actual legal name of the entity is of small moment; what we want is the common name. Searching on just "The Meyerowitz Stories" (with "(New and Selected)" removed) provides links to many stories where the entity is referred to as just "The Meyerowitz Stories". Which makes sense, since people tend to elide unnecessary verbiage. I expect people will be found mostly saying "hey did you see that new film The Meyerowitz Stories" rather than "hey did you see that new film The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected)" and writers will also write the shorter version -- and appear to be doing so. IMDb, a very popular website, has just "The Meyerowitz Stories" and so does ABC News and IndieWire and so on. Also, one of the Five Virtues of article titles is Conciseness, and the proposed move is less concise. Herostratus (talk) 02:14, 25 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Title move

edit

Now that the film has been released, it is clear the full name is The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) so a move to the full title would be justified. Netflix: https://www.netflix.com/title/80174434. If there are no objections, I will make the move Bigar (talk) 09:44, 13 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Per WP:CONCISE and more specifically WP:SUBTITLE, I think it should not be moved. Both the poster and the Netflix page set "(New and Selected)" apart as a subtitle.

Furthermore, the full title of this film would be confusing to readers who are familiar with Wikipedia's convention of using parentheses to disambiguate articles. Anything other than "(film)" or "(2017 film)" makes it seem like you've found the wrong page. Jruderman (talk) 03:39, 14 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps Elizabeth Marvel should be mentioned in the lede as well

edit

Her character, Jean, was one of the siblings, had a titled segment of the film dedicated to her character, and, FWIW, my anecdotal impression after watching the film is that she had at least as much 'screen time' as Emma Thompson's character (probably more). Actually, now I think of it, it seems Grace Van Patten's role as Danny's daughter was at least as large (if-not-larger) than Thompson's also. Perhaps add both to the lead as 'starring' or alternately add just Elizabeth Marvel while dropping Thompson. Hmm, perhaps drawing a 'starring' and 'supporting' distinction might make for more accommodating flow ... something like ...

Meh, I suppose argument could be made to shift Marvel to 'supporting' along with Thompson and Van Patten as, though one of the three siblings and noted as such, the role of Jean seems to have been brought forth significantly less than that of Sandler, Stiller, and Hoffman's characters. --75.188.199.98 (talk) 02:23, 16 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
