Hello, i created this page as people kept putting discographies on The Neptunes' page, despite the fact that there was a link to the official discography... anyway, if we're going to have a wikified discography, it may aswell be more useful than the official one; so i've started it out chronogically, and with albums. but obviously a lot more needs to be done so please help out! please try to stick to the formatting; i think there are enough examples to figure the rest out from.. ~ Bungalowbill —Preceding undated comment added 01:15, 14 July 2006 (UTC).

Incorrect additions

• Do not include re-uses of instrumentals which have had no further production, such as the Clipse's "Drop it like it's hot"
• Pharrell featuring on a track does not necessarily mean he produced it. this most often occurs when there is a song over an old instrumental, usually on mixtapes.
• if you think an addition may be controversial, or has been removed by someone else, then u must provide a link proving that it was produced by the neptunes. this can either be done by typing [http://www.example.com] after the entry, or providing a link or reasoning on the talk page (This page).

Mystikal's "Not That Nigga" was produced by precise [1]

Clipse's Drop it like it's hot is, i believe, just a re-use of the Snoop Dogg instrumental, which is already included. “You’ll See.” uses EPMD instrumental “You’re A Customer” [2]. i believe the rest of the tracks on "We got it 4 cheap" are re-used instrumentals also, and so should be removed, unless someone can prove otherwise.

With SWV's release of the 'Right Here' CDS, there were many remixes of 'right here'. however, these (like the original on the '92 album) only featured Pharrell saying 'SWV' in the background, and he did nothing original in any of these remixes, therefore the should not be included. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bungalowbill (talk • contribs) 16:20, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

The Neptunes Did not Produce the instrumental for the pepsi commercial that features Dr. Dre and Quincy Jones or was it even a song by Dr. Dre featuring Snoop Dogg as stated before. Page overhaul needed

The page currently has several serious problems, in content, formatting, and sourcing. As the recent back-and-forth edit warring might indicate, it isn't clear to all editors what the problems are. It needs an overhaul, and I hope that by listing the problems I see, that we can reach agreement on the problem identification, what to do about the problems, and how we can most effectively improve the page to a much better condition.

Scope and content

• Scope of the discography
  • The scope of the article is rather too vague for my tastes, since it seems to cover any work performed, written, or produced by not only The Neptunes as a duo, but either one or both of Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams credited as individuals. The title suggests it should be only "The Neptunes", but if the lead is very clear, I could accept a discog for all combinations.
  • In any case, the discography needs to be a list of finished, published works. Currently, there are a number of entries labelled "Didn't Make The Final Cut"; these all need to be removed. Likewise, the entries in "Upcoming Projects" need to be removed until they are actually published (or there is a significant amount of coverage in the mainstream press).
• The page currently has three main sections:
  1. Something labelled "Performance Discography". I understood this to be an album and (its) singles on which The Neptunes are the main performers. I am currently not 100% convinced that they actually do perform on these works. At our Clones (album) article, it says "Clones is an album of songs from various artists, produced by the production duo of Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams, known as The Neptunes." It now appears that the heading for this section is wrong, or possibly Clones belongs in another section.
  2. Production & Writing Credits. Although it's not immediately clear, this section seems to list album and artist, with individual songs from that album in which the The Neptunes (or its members) have played some role. This is a really long list, with entries grouped by year, and makes no use of tables. Individual songs which happen to be singles are marked in bold, but so are the albums and artists.
  3. Neptunes Singles.This section apparently lists singles in which The Neptunes played a part. This looks like a separate repetition of singles marked in bold type in the previous section.

These three sections are unusual and don't make good sense. Better would be traditional discography tables, with no repeated listings. We should use WP:DISCOGSTYLE and WP:ACCESS as guidance.

Formatting

• The formatting of most of the content is contrary to Wikipedia convention and the Manual of Style.
  • Individual songs should be set off by quotation marks, whether they are singles or not, per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Titles. The only reason a song should be bold is if it's acting as a table heading.
  • Albums, EPs and mixtapes should be shown in italics, per MOS:ITALIC. The only reason an album should be bold is if it's acting as a table heading.
  • Artist names should be in regular typeface, not italic or bold. There is no need for artist names to serve as headings in this discography, so they should never be bold (MOS:BOLD).
  • Links to WP pages for songs, albums and artists should be provided only once, at the first occurrence, in any one section, per WP:OVERLINK. The exception is if we use a sortable table, in which case multiple instances may be linked.
  • The Neptunes, Chad Hugo, and Pharrell Williams need to be linked no more than once, at the top of the page. It's all about them, so we don't need to keep repeating their links throughout.
  • Notations about chart appearances (current example: #90 US Hot R&B/Hip Hop) should be in regular typeface, except for the chart name when it is a column heading.
  • Don't use the number ("#") sign. Peak positions on charts should be simply the number (e.g., 90) if in a table, or shown in words (e.g., number 90) if in text.
  • The headings are over-capitalized, and need to be fixed per WP:Section caps.

Referencing and sourcing

• The referencing is an enormous problem.
  • Many, many of the entries have absolutely no source indicator whatsoever. These unsourced entries need to be referenced or removed.
  • Some number of the sources are unreliable sources, or otherwise fail to verify the information claimed. See WP:Reliable sources
  • Everything needs to be verifiable, per WP:Verifiability.
  • All references should be marked up as references using <ref></ref>. Currently most are simply bare URLs in square brackets ([3]), or labelled mysteriously with an asterisk as *.

Plan of attack

• Once again I want to suggest a plan of attack to improve this page which I had earlier alluded to at MikaSan's Talk page. I am prepared to help do the formatting of the content, and I will fix up useful references with full citations, but I do not want to spend time doing reformatting for unsourced assertions and gossipy, premature reports.

I have been trying to lead us to a better-referenced page by adding {{Citation needed}} tags to just three entries at a time. When these have good URLs to reliable sources, I would format them into full reference citations, and tag a few more unsourced entries. I'm willing to go step by step. Unfortunately, my tags have simply been removed, with no addition of good references.

If MikaSan can point to what the various works are, and can dig up the URLs proving it, then we can move forward and make this a top-class discography. Otherwise, we can (a) delete all of the inappropriate material, which I think is a very large portion, if not most of it; (b) leave it in the same sorry condition it's currently in; or (c) edit war back and forth until all of us are blocked (and leaving the page in the same sorry condition it's currently in). I don't like any of these last three possibilities, so let's agree to add references progressively. We can then efficiently format the well-sourced content to match other Wikipedia discographies. — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 19:01, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Untitled * (Produced By Pharrell Williams, Didn't Make The Final Cut)" - the link given for this shows a picture of Pharrell with First Summer Uika and Momose Momo, but it looks like they're probably recording their parts in "Secret Life of Tigers", which features just Uika and Momo. Is there any other source which mentions a song for LAST ALBUM? Screaming coffee (talk) 18:01, 21 March 2018 (UTC)

Sourcing desparately needed

This list has had some 4300 edits since its creation in July 2006, and it has never been adequately (or even moderately) well-sourced. This is, of course, in conflict with our policy of WP:Verifiability. I have therefore added a More citations needed tag and hope to have the time, interest and energy to finally clear out this bed of weeds. When (and if) I do, I shall be applying the following rules:

1. An existing entry must have reliable sourcing that the song (or entire album) was produced by The Neptunes. I may be lenient for items which are well-sourced as being produced by Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, listed individually. However, any work which lacks such sourcing will get summarily deleted (potential exception: see next item).
2. An entry with reliable sourcing that the work was produced by Pharrell Williams or Chad Hugo might be left for now, as a matter of prioritising the work here, but ultimately, may also be removed, as not belonging on this page.
3. An existing entry for which I find sourcing of any quality whatsoever that the work was produced by somebody else (not in collaboration with The Neptunes, Williams or Hugo) will be immediately removed.
4. Any claims of peak position on a music chart or certification by an industry association must have reliable sourcing, or such claims will be subject to removal. (I'll try to start from the newest and work to the oldest recordings, to give us more time to find refs from what might be older sources or defunct publishers.)
5. Any new additions which I see being made without reliable sourcing will be reverted as soon as they're noticed.
6. Anyone who cares about maintaining (some or all of) the content on this page (e.g., User:Terminader, User:MikaSan, User:Dasmith32, User:Bungalowbill) is of course free (encouraged, even) to add reliable sources to what's currently here (or clear out what is known to be wrong).

I'm going to wait a while with the ruthless deletions, and focus at first on finding and adding refs, in particular for the chart peaks already present. By April, though, I think I will be either adding refs to or simply deleting large numbers of entries listed here. I'm looking forward to your help and cooperation. Thank you. I while ago I gave the page a huge overhaul, as it was littered with unsourced "unreleased" tracks and solo productions (I plan on creating a production discography page for Chad Hugo as well so it will be easier for readers to differentiate between their solo works and their work as a duo. I have sourced any chart positions or tracks that I know of that lack articles, and the article is in better shape than its ever been but I will ultimately contribute to completing the sourcing.
