The Québec Charter of Values → Quebec Charter of Values – New article with many redirects. We dont use "The" and we also should have this at the most common English spelling title - é is simply not found on an English keyboard Moxy (talk) 17:12, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
- I've seen articles in Wikipedia using an "é", such as Pokémon. Steel1943 (talk) 17:39, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
- Interesting GA example that seems not to follow Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Trademarks. But that said we have policies for this type of thing in Canadian articles pls see WP:CANFRENCH. As of now the title is a mix of French with "é" (that no one can type) and English with "The" - noting common about this spelling. -- Moxy (talk) 17:51, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
- I agree with Moxy. "Quebec" is both the common and official English spelling. "Québec" seems inappropriate given that the rest of the title is in English. "The" is unnecessary given Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Article titles. Kyuko (talk) 22:56, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose - Move to Quebec charter of values. This is not a formal English translation/name and per WP:CAPS should not be capitalized. As for Quebec, the relevant guideline is WP:FRMOS, but this is one of the very few examples of an English exonym which coincides with an endonym except for the local accent. (I thought that Québec, if deliberately used in English, usually refers to the city not the province?) In ictu oculi (talk) 02:12, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
- Support removing the diacritic. See here and here. The Holy Four (talk) 08:49, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
- Support The article seems to have been redirected to its current name without the slightest understanding of the most basic naming guidelines. Read WP:THE lately? And of course WP:CANFRENCH, in that even main articles Quebec and Government of Quebec are unaccented here. As for In ictu oculi's point regarding title case, a Google news search reveals that English language media in Canada does not have any consensus on what to call this thing, but have in some cases written it just as proposed. Any rename would be such a vast improvement over the clueless state of the article name currently that I can see no reason not to proceed as proposed, asap. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 20:10, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
- I should out that the chartre's official name is now the even more bizarre : Charte affirmant les valeurs de laïcité et de neutralité religieuse de l’État ainsi que d’égalité entre les femmes et les hommes et encadrant les demandes d’accommodement per here. I would have no objection to renaming to that, but then that would surely be WP:POINT. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 22:00, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
Reaction
editJust a note that the "Reaction" section obviously needs to be fleshed out further, including favorable reactions, of which there have been some, as I recall. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 20:30, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
This article need to be balanced by adding a pro/con section who will display the main argument of both side. Also an historical context is required. 198.52.55.246 (talk) 22:01, 26 January 2014 (UTC) Alain
