Notability

edit

On 5/4/2014 someone put up a "notability" banner at the top of the article. In case you don't know, for something to have an article on Wikipedia it has to be well-known, not something someone found in a dark corner of their garage. I think that this banner should be taken down, as this game hasn't gone unnoticed. You can search it up on Google and YouTube, there are a bunch of playthroughs and art on the game. If you Google "The Witch's House," you're not going to find some crappy B-movie from the 90s, you're going to find this game. I'm going to take it down, but I'm also going to open up this discussion so that we, as Wikipedians, can talk with each other and come to a conclusion if we should put the banner back up or keep it down. There are a lot of problems with this as a Wikipedia article:
1. It's poorly written from the perspective of the average person. There are many things I can point out; for example, see the Gameplay section. All 3 sentences start with "The game".
2. There's nothing to write about. As much as I love this game, there's legitimately nothing to say about this game. There's no sequel: Fummy doesn't have any visible plans to make another game. There's no plot dialogue until the end; the viewer is given a generic-looking horror game. Sure, it's fun, and I'd recommend this to most of my friends, but you really can't say much about the game. Actually, the reason it's so good, in my opinion, is just because the player doesn't have any expectations when they start the game.
3. This brings me to my third point: this Wikipedia article is literally ruining the game. I hesitate to recommend this to anyone at the moment, simply because if I do, their kneejerk reaction is probably to look it up on Wikipedia. This spoils the finale in the worst way possible: it's really vague about the game in general, yet it completely ruins the surprise the end. I personally would not play the game if I read this article first
If you want a decently-written article about a similar game, see Ao Oni's page. Non-descriptive of the plot, yet substantial enough to be called a Wikipedia article.
4. TVtropes exists, and writing about the game in a non-professional fashion is much more accepted over there. If you want to read an article describing a game, you'd probably head over TVtropes, not Wikipedia. The problem is that most people who don't play games often use Wikipedia for everything, and that makes people who would otherwise enjoy the game dislike it. It's hard enough to get people to play games like this in the first place.
With that being said, I personally think that this article should be taken down for the sake of the game itself; notability isn't even the issue anymore, despite the fact that most people point to Ib when they think of weeaboo horror games, which doesn't have a Wikipedia page. Any objections to these thoughts? Awkward Specimen (talk) 02:30, 1 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Does Ellen have a last name/surname/family name? If she does that should be written in this article. --User123o987name (talk) 20:49, 1 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
