Renaming
editI'd like to rename the article "Three-North Shelterbelt Program" as it is used more often than "Green Great Wall" and is also a literal translation of the Chinese name of the project. Objections? Karmos (talk) 07:00, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
MOS
editNot sure on wiki official form, but shouldn't distance nomenclature have form?

Update needed
editMuch of the information currently included in this article dates to 2008/2009. What has happened since? What is the current status of the program? Kind regards, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 15:39, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Move discussion in progress
editThere is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Great Green Wall which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 14:05, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
Criticism
editThe first sentence of the criticism section states that "In April 2003, Western scientists argued the Chinese plan was either an inadequate solution or simply propaganda." The citation is from Wired and refers to two people, Hong Jiang (University of Wisconsin geography professor mentioned later in the paragraph) and Dee Williams (US Department of Interior anthropologist also mentioned later). My issue with this is that perhaps instead of stating "In April 2003, Western scientists argued...", the article should simply state Jiang's and Williams' criticisms. Currently, the phrasing may give a sense of a larger consensus that suddenly emerged in April of 2003, and this is not the case. 2601:5C2:201:5BB0:F9F7:9DEC:11F5:5268 (talk) 22:11, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
- Also worth mentioning, neither source in the Wired article mentioned propaganda. This seems to be artistic license from the article's author. 2601:5C2:201:5BB0:F9F7:9DEC:11F5:5268 (talk) 22:14, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
Misleading text
editThree-North Shelter Forest Program also reversed the desertification of the Gobi desert, which grew 10,000 square kilometers per year in the 1980s, but was shrinking by more than 2,000 square kilometers per year in 2022.
vs the text in the citation:
Only a few decades ago, deserts in China were growing by 10,000 square kilometers per year, according to the country's State Forestry and Grassland Administration. Today, they are shrinking by more than 2,000 square kilometers a year.
These say entirely different things. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.97.13.52 (talk)
