This is a type of short Japanese spear used for mounted combat and for samurai on foot, termed a yari associated with sojutsu.
since it doesn't seem to make sense. If this is a one of a kind spear, how can it be a type of spear used by footmen samurai? TomorrowTime 10:59, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm interesting in knowing what kind of spear is this: Is it the kind for piercing armor, cutting down horses, anti-infantry in general, ... What? --Dubtiger (talk) 03:43, 9 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

According to the article, it's one of those awesome spears that you use to bisect dragonflies. No, really. It's just an ornate spear with a legendary background. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 61.68.226.38 (talk) 08:10, 14 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
According to the above discussion topic it is a "short Japanese spear used for mounted combat and for samurai on foot". I'm sure all the other samurai didn't carry one sword against armour and another against horses, and a third against "infantry in general". Read a bit about how a Samurai chose his sword, and you can bet this spear was chosen in a similar way, with the design anything the particular master fighter felt most comfortable wielding and fielding against whatever might come his way. --BjKa (talk) 18:48, 22 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

"The spear was over 40 cm long"

edit

Well, if it was under 40 cm long you'd call it a dagger.
But seriously: This needs to be corrected: how long is the blade shown in the picture (measured minus tang preferably), and how long was the complete weapon of General Wotsisname. --BjKa (talk)
