trigonometry list

edit

If you want to view trigonometry basic concepts, perhaps that could be linked from academic disciplines. I think the basic list should be combined with geometry topics. Please consult a mathematician. --gatoatigrado 04:39, 18 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I do not feel my expertise is enough to say so, but classes such as Linear Algebra show similarities between trigonometry concepts such as a perpendicular angle, and the extension to the more general concept orthogonality. A lot of links (deleted) are more than trigonometric concepts, such as Great-circle distance. Also, when excess links are removed, there are only 11 links. Some mathemeticians consider trigonometry as a part of geometry, while others consider it a subject unto itself. And since there are school courses specifically named "trigonometry", that means there will be students looking for this subject who may not know to look under geometry. Therefore, trigonometry should have its own list. The tag has been displayed for a month, and this thread of discussion now lacks consensus. Therefore, I'm removing the merge tag (it merely clutters the page). The Transhumanist 11:53, 17 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Topology

edit

Do we need to mention topology here? It is related to geometry but is neither a subset nor a superset of it. It is kind of geometry without the distances or geometria situs as it was known in the 19th century.

Quick explanation of Wikipedia outlines

edit

"Outline" is short for "hierarchical outline". There are two types of outlines: sentence outlines (like those you made in school to plan a paper), and topic outlines (like the topical synopses that professors hand out at the beginning of a college course). Outlines on Wikipedia are primarily topic outlines that serve 2 main purposes: they provide taxonomical classification of subjects showing what topics belong to a subject and how they are related to each other (via their placement in the tree structure), and as subject-based tables of contents linked to topics in the encyclopedia. The hierarchy is maintained through the use of heading levels and indented bullets. See Wikipedia:Outlines for a more in-depth explanation. The Transhumanist 00:06, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Consensus to merge List of geometry topics into Outline of geometry (unopposed for 6 weeks). Felix QW (talk) 16:55, 1 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Duplicate article. Currently List of algebra topics is redirected to Outline of algebra, this will eliminate the dup article and maintain naming convention  // Timothy :: talk  11:31, 16 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
