SS-N-2 capability

I faintly remember a story about two Styx missiles (Finnish name: MtO 66) being launched from Turunmaa. I think it was during the testing phase before they were added to the Osa-II missile boats (Finnish Tuima class). I think that's what these two plane silhouettes on Turunmaa are for. Don't know if it's significant or worth mentioning on the article. --Laisak 21:38, 20 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Would fit nicely in the history section. I have some more pictures of Karjala from my last trip to the harbour, will shoot some more and upload next year after the holidays. This database page for Harpoon (computer game) has some more info on sensors and electronics, not that I'd use that before cross-checking with other sources (Jane's would be nice). I think (90% sure) the story was in "Tuurnala, Alpo (2004). Harmaat laivat. Helsinki: Art-Print. ISBN 952-9745-16-8." I should really buy that book and not just depend on it being free to loan in the library when I need it. --Laisak 22:13, 20 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

crew?

edit

Why does the info box say "30 officers, 40 conscripts" instead of something like "30 officers, 40 seamen?"?. And how do you get 30 officers into a 700-ton ship anyway? I grant you that main gun probably took a lot of maintainance (I'd by more frightened of that than most SSMs), but a 3-4 officer/rating ratio seems excessive. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.88.66.54 (talk) 15:18, 29 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

More accurately it would be 30 cadre and 40 conscript crew (i think). Meaning that of the 70 men crew 40 were conscripts of various ranks - seamen, NCOs, (reserve) officer trainees - and the rest 30 were actually professional soldiers employed by the Finnish Navy (officers, specialists and so on). - Wanderer602 (talk) 08:23, 30 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
