Major Cities info box

edit
  • Shouldn't the order of the U.S. Route 321 Major Cities info box actually follow those on the US321? If this is the case, it seems as some of the South Carolina cities should be placed in order at the top of the box and not intermixed with the North Carolina cities as listed....Bee Cliff River Slob (talk) 06:42, 4 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Split suggestion; Bannered routes of U.S. Route 321

edit

Suggesting (since November 2012) that the section on bannered routes gets split off into a list of Bannered routes of U.S. Route 321, and replaced with a link in a "See also" section. The current bannered routes section of this article takes up half of it, and there's always potential for expansion of the bannered routes separately. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 14:36, 20 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

I am fine with that idea. --WashuOtaku (talk) 14:53, 20 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
I also support this idea. But we keep the Bannered routes section and just use the section hatnote to link to the main article. –TCN7JM 15:12, 20 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
I think I may have something in mind for the new version of the bannered routes section; Just combine the existing sentences and add the hatnote. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 16:04, 20 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

My only caveat on supporting is that I don't want a pure copy and paste. These loops should have their sections expanded with it.Mitch32(Victim of public education, 17 years and counting) 15:27, 20 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Oh, I support expansion of these segments 100%. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 15:58, 20 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
UPDATE - Expansion may be a problem. The one source I can find that might help (NCRoads) is a dead link. Evidently it was moved to VA Roads and that link died too. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 15:05, 21 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
You mean this: NCRoads.com Annex. --WashuOtaku (talk) 16:03, 21 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
That was it. When I clicked on the US Route List and Home page from there, it gives me the standard "The webpage cannot be found"/404 message. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 16:54, 21 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
I am not getting any 404 messages, I am able to pull the pages from the link provided; granted some of the images may not load though and the site hasn't been very active since 2004. --WashuOtaku (talk) 18:10, 21 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
That lack of activity since 2004 is a bad sign. I can go to the homepage from the link you provided directly, but if I were to go to the homepage from the US 321 page or some of the others, I'm out of luck. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 18:43, 21 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Looks to me like NCRoads is a WP:SPS. We don't normally use those as references. We just stick them in the External links. –TCN7JM 21:13, 21 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
It is I guess, but it is mostly an reliable source and provides a lot of history for the highways in the area, which can be backed-up with historic maps on NCDOT website. However, I have been adding "unreliable source" tags when I source the material nowadays. --WashuOtaku (talk) 21:31, 21 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Doesn't matter. It's still an SPS. I was told not to use the North Dakota Highways Page for the same reason, even though it's fairly reliable. Either way, the creator of the site probably got the info from a different, possibly more reliable website. It would be better if you could find an official NCDOT site. –TCN7JM 21:43, 21 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
I can see that the material for expansion is currently not forthcoming. As stated above, we cannot really split until the material is available. In the meantime, I have removed the info boxes just to make things look tidier. By all means re-instate then when more material is available. Op47 (talk) 22:20, 11 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Here are the routes that have existed:
BUS US 321 - Winnsboro Mills to Winnsboro, South Carolina
BUS US 321 - Chester, South Carolina
BUS US 321 - York, South Carolina
US 321A - Blowing Rock, North Carolina (former)
BUS US 321 - Blowing Rock, North Carolina
BUS US 321 - Dallas to Hickory, North Carolina
US 321A - Granite Falls to Mount Herman, North Carolina
BUS US 321 - Lenoir, North Carolina (former) Allen (Morriswa) (talk) 22:57, 11 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
I know it's been a long time, but when was the Blowing Rock Alternate eliminated? I have a a sandbox of this list right now, along with another one for US 231. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 22:06, 26 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
The answer is it never existed. I have found no documentation or maps supporting a US 321 Alternate route through Blowing Rock. US 321 Business was established in 1960; before that it was a secondary road, a result of US 321 being rerouted onto new bypass route by 1954; county maps I have support this. Before you post the page, please try to get the correct era signs for the former routes.  :) --WashuOtaku (talk) 00:24, 27 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
While I'm here, US 321 Business in Lenoir, North Carolina also never existed, it was US 321A. Now, I do recall at one time some road signs in Lenoir may have been posted as US 321 Business in the downtown area (possibly by the city itself), but when NCDOT rerouted US 321A in 2006, it is clearly identified as US 321A. State and county maps confirm this. --WashuOtaku (talk) 00:31, 27 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Okay WashuOtaku, so here's my offer; Do you want to take over the sandbox, and split the special routes onto a separate page? ---------User:DanTD (talk) 00:57, 8 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Uh, that would mean I would have to be more active again. It doesn't take much to setup a special page though, a lot of it is cut-n-paste with some tweaks is all. --WashuOtaku (talk) 15:51, 8 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
