Updates to introduction and research

edit

Hi - just suggesting some updates to the page as doesn't currently reflect UCLPartners structure ( I am employed by UCLPartners so wouldn't be appropriate to make these edits). For example in the intro, it just refers to UCLP as an academic health science centre, when it has other roles - more details of the structure are here: https://uclpartners.com/about-us/

Also the details under the research header are out of date (from 2010), again suggest "About Us" would have more details on this - https://uclpartners.com/about-us/

Thanks

Board

edit
  • Information to be added or removed: This text needs to be edited: "A board led by an independent chair (currently Charlie Davie)"
  • Explanation of issue: Please remove reference to Charlie Davie as is incorrectly named as current chair
  • References supporting change: This page provides information on our board: https://uclpartners.com/about-us/our-board/

Some proposed changes

edit

*Information to be added or removed:

Suggest the following text is amended:

UCLPartners is an academic health science centre located in London, England. It is the largest academic health science centre in the world, treats more than 1.5 million patients each year, has a combined annual turnover of around £2 billion and includes around 3,500 scientists, senior researchers and consultants.

*Explanation of issue:

This text is based on sources from 2008/2009 when UCLPartners was first established and is now out of date. It does not accurately reflect the current membership, scope, and role of the organisation (for example UCLPartners has other designations aside from AHSC). Suggested text instead would be:

UCLPartners is a partnership of 23 National Health Service (NHS) trusts and 9 higher education institutions covering north central and east London and parts of Essex, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. Governed by a partnership board and led by clinical academics supported by a corporate senior team, its purpose is to bring together organisations to work collaboratively for the health and care of the population served.

*References supporting change:

The suggested text above featured in the following article from 2020: https://bmjleader.bmj.com/content/4/4/228#block-system-main See also history page on the UCLPartners website for a timeline of changes: https://uclpartners.com/about-us/our-history/

@Mbiddle79: This seems to remove a lot of information.
Is it still "an academic health science centre"?
How many patients are treated each year?
What is the combined annual turnover now?
How many scientists, senior researchers, and consultants are involved? WhatamIdoing (talk) 23:42, 25 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
@WhatamIdoing: Just to respond to your queries
Is it still "an academic health science centre"? - Yes but UCLPartners partnership has expanded since 2009 to include five other roles. It is also an Academic Health Science Network (AHSN), and the wider partnership includes NIHR CRN North Thames, NIHR ARC North Thames, DATA-CAN: Health Data Research Hub for Cancer, and NHS North Thames Genomic Medicine Service Alliance. More details on structure can be found here: https://uclpartners.com/about-us/
How many patients are treated each year? UCLPartners serves a regional population of 6 million.
What is the combined annual turnover now? - Not sure as this would be the combined figure of around 30 organisations from across the partnership so difficult to say – however figure from 2009 would now be out of date.
How many scientists, senior researchers, and consultants are involved? – There are scientists, senior researchers and consultants from around 8 universities and 23 NHS trusts. Mbiddle79 (talk) 08:52, 9 April 2021‎ (UTC)Reply
@Mbiddle79, sorry, I should have checked the sources earlier. Because of copyright and plagiarism rules, we can't take text word-for-word out of a prior publication. WhatamIdoing (talk) 00:02, 25 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Suggested updates

edit
  • Information to be added or removed:

Could the "Research" section be updated as is out of date. (I work for UCLPartners so wouldn't be appropriate for me to change). The new priority areas are:

respiratory health

dementia

vision

cardiovascular health

adolescent mental health

early cancer detection

climate

healthcare system design

For reference, they can be viewed here: https://uclpartners.com/our-priorities/

Also suggest removing: "According to the independent Thomson ISI Essential Science Indicators, which assesses organisations according to the number of highly cited publications produced, UCLPartners is ranked: first in the world for research into ophthalmology; second in the world (and first in Europe) for neuroscience; first in Europe for clinical medicine; and second in Europe for immunology." This information is from 2010 and refers to other organisations we partner with rather than UCLPartners itself. Mcb79 (talk) 14:46, 6 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Request for update to opening paragraph

edit

Hi, please could the first paragraph be edited as this is now out of date and does not accurately reflect UCLPartners, particularly being the largest academic health science centre in the world. I am a employee so not appropriate for me to make the changes.

It would be more accurate to say we are a health innovation partnership, which includes being an academic health science centre and an academic health science network. There are more details here: Who we are - UCLPartners

Thanks for your help, please let me know if you need more info.

Follow up request for update on opening paragraph

edit

The first paragraph is out of date, especially as UCLPartners is not the largest academic health science centre in the world.

It would be more accurate to say we are a health innovation partnership, which includes being an academic health science centre and an academic health science network. There are more details here: Who we are - UCLPartners

As I am an employee of UCLPartners, I cannot make these changes myself.

Thank you
