Continuing or Not?

edit

This article has a 'schizophrenic' attitude to whether the U F Church currently exisits or not. As there is a U F Church in existence today then it seems clear that the article should reflect this fact consistently. If contributors feel that it is important make a very strong distinction between the pre-1929 Church and the continuting Church then we could go for a separate article such as United Free Church of Scotland (1900 - 1929), but my feeling is that this would be a step too far. Problem is that it is contraversial. In 1929, the bulk of the denomination joined the CofS, and according to the joiners, the denomination merged and ceased. Some however stayed out of the union, and according to them are the original denomination, which the others 'left'. The designation 'UFC (continuing)' is often used to indicate this ambiguity. --Doc ask? 09:44, 14 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
I haven't looked to see what the article was like in April 2006, but I think it's quite clear today. At the beginning of the 20th century the UFC was a huge denomination. In 1929 a somewhat shrunk UFC merged with a somewhat shrunk CofS, leaving a small separate UFC behind. Both have shrunk dramatically since, with a potential for near disappearance in upcoming decades if trends continue. --PeterR2 (talk) 19:35, 23 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
