Wikipedia Worthy
editThis page is a collaboration between Angela, Luke and myself on Urban Planning in Australia which is a component of our Masters degree study at Macquarie University. After searching through Wikipedia we realised that this area of urban planning was missing and we could all not comprehend why. Urban Planning in Australia is similar in some ways to other parts of the world but on a whole it is unique and we feel is a valuable added addition to the Wikipedia website.
Urban planning in Australia like other countries has gone through a growth stage, particularly over the last four decades. Australians care about the environment and their multi-cultural surroundings that have come to form this great nation. This includes the heritage buildings, and complicated infrastructure. Through community involvement and standing up for what we believe in Australians have been able to hold on to memories of the past and the beauty of our urban environment. Legislation has passed and transport methods have developed but Australia still has a long way to go to form a framework that works for a growing urban population that spans the long coastline. With current climate change causing increasing intense weather patterns and with the need to conserve valuable water, the Australian urban planners are looking for innovative ways to build in a water sensitive urban design that is able to with stand an unforgiving climate.
We hope that this page can shed more light on the subject which will instigate discussion and action to continue to improve the Australian Urban environment. We also hope that this page is accepted well by the Wikipedia community.Beau Dubois 09:37, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
