Mistake

edit

The above IAAF article mentions that the article has listed that Vili had a Scottish father, when in fact he is English. Let's be careful to get our citations and facts right in future. Sillyfolkboy (talk) (edits)Join WikiProject Athletics! 11:04, 17 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Name change

edit

IAAF says she's no longer Vili; her profile is under Valerie Adams now and says "During a couple of years she took Vili as surname." Major changes probably need more elaborate information, but be ready for it. Sideways713 (talk) 18:45, 17 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

She's competing under Valerie Adams now as shown on the TV for the Commonwealth games.124.168.72.17 (talk) 14:49, 9 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

David Storl also belongs to the mentioned category

->

Adams is one of only eight athletes (along with Usain Bolt, Veronica Campbell-Brown, Jacques Freitag, Yelena Isinbayeva, Jana Pittman, Dani Samuels, and David Storl) to win world championships at the youth, junior, and senior level of an athletic event.

Please change "Valerie is the brother of basketballer Steven Adams" to "Valerie is the sister of basketballer Steven Adams." because Valerie is a woman and is a sister not a brother Waddles72 (talk) 15:08, 4 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

On-going vandalism

edit

I've asked to have the page semi-protected due to vandalism. I believe the vandalism is linked to the publicity around the stripping of Nadzeya Ostapchuk of the 2012 olympic gold and the award of it to Valerie Adams. Stuartyeates (talk) 00:12, 2 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Seems a logical course of action at this time. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 00:17, 2 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Edit Request

edit

Guys, I'd have a request: last time I checked, there was a small but significant one-sentence edit and an intriguing bit of information concerning a major change in Val's training between Beijing and London. It really captured my attention and made me look for more information about her periodization training.

It was about Emmanuel Legaerd's training protocols. Unfortunately, Legaerd passed away last year and he was kind of a secret, so not much has surfaced since in terms of training methods. But I'm currently on a sabbatical in Germany and Switzerland and it is well-attested, here, (and widely known) how instrumental Legaerd's methods were in bringing out Val's second youth under Jean-Pierre's influence. For example, I have just finished reading an interview with Jean-Pierre on the website of some amateur hammer thrower (Martin Bissinger), and he states quite clearly that the methodical change was somehow revolutionary.

But now it's gone, and I am sorry that I did not save it. Wasn't it valuable, encyclopedia-type information and as such in the interest of the Wikipedians, especially those interested in the shot put, to restore and keep it...? As a shot putter, I'm kind of just wishing it could show up again on Val's page for all to see... Something to be done, here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by DurgaShot (talkcontribs) 14:50, 25 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

It doesn't seem particularly important to me, especially since Emmanuel Legaerd does not have his own article (nor for that matter does Jean-Pierre Egger). I have never seen any mention in the general press that Val uses this training method and therefore its significance would appear too minimal for inclusion here. Egger/Bingisser/Legeard/Vili in Switzerland?

edit

@ Durga

After checking:

1.It is Martin BiNGIsser, not Bissinger (see below, link #1). 2.It is Emmanuel Legeard aka "Manny" Legeard, not Legaerd (see below, link #2) 3.He is presumably very much alive; it even turns out that he made an apparition on German TV just the other day.

As for the rest, you're correct. It appears that Egger (who is extremely famous, despite not having a Wikipedia entry) often publicly stated that the Legeard-inspired revolution in his methodology was essential in helping Val reach for Olympic gold. I think this is what you had in mind? =>

Got me interested, too. Could deserve a mention.

@ DerbyCounty

The bit about Valerie Vili living in Switzerland is odd. Switzerland is my home, and I am heavily involved in the Olympic dpt. in Lausanne. I am almost certain that Vili does not live here. In fact, she couldn't even if she wanted, due to the residency laws currently in force "hierzulande", so this info must be false, and probably deserves to be gone, or at least double-checked.

Hope this helps. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JumpingCaptain (talkcontribs) 14:29, 12 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Obviously she does in fact live there, for part of the year. I don't see how any residency laws would impact on that, and I see absolutely no reason to remove the current information in that regard. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 08:01, 13 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Correction: I have fixed the entry to match the citation. Switzerland is Adams' training base the implication that she lives there was not only poor writing but factually incorrect (by implication) and is not supported by the given citation.
