Note about categorization
editThis is in Category:Ferries in Oregon and also in the parent cat Category:Ferries in the United States because it is also a ferry in Washingon but is not part of the ferry system at Category:Washington State ferries. Katr67 20:49, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
- I took care of this by creating Category:Ferries in Washington. Katr67 (talk) 16:16, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Steamboats cat?
editWas this route formerly covered by a steamboat? Cool! That info should be added to the article. Katr67 (talk) 16:11, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
History
editAnyone that can provide a history of the service, especially prior to 1962 (when the county took it over), should be encouraged to do so.
It should also be pointed out (if proper references are available) that the service operates free if there are road closures on WA 4, such as those due to landslides, which happen occasionally. In such instances, the service is subsidized by the State of Washington. I don't know if anything similar is used if portions of US 30 on the Oregon side ever become impassable. 76.21.8.213 (talk) 18:46, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
Is this really the last ferry?
editThe article states that this "is the last regularly scheduled car ferry to cross the Columbia River."
With qualifying statements, this might be true, but what about the Keller Ferry, Gifford-Inchelium Ferry, and the various ferries in British Columbia? I believe that the intent may have been to say between Oregon and Washington, and I have corrected it as such. Feel free to help clarify this if you know anything about the subject. jr98664 (talk) 21:13, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- I can't speak to the original intent, but your reasoning -- and the result -- seem sound to me. I've been in Portlnd for some time, and driven that stretch of the river many times...never heard of another ferry between OR and WA. Thanks for explaining. -Pete (talk) 23:10, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
