An article like this should not exist - it can only be POV, causes trouble, and is not necessary . There are several wars on the list whose characterisation as wars of liberation would be reasonably disputed by many, and cause grave offence. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.185.146.101 (talk) 20:44, 21 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Chronological Order

edit

There appears to be no order to this list. Please order the list based on the year the war of independence began. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RayaanIrani (talkcontribs) 00:31, 31 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Inconsistent

edit

I really have to question the characterization of some of these as wars of independence, since they don’t involve one state trying to break away from another. Two that really stand out to me are the Chinese Civil War and Zimbabwe War of Liberation/Rhodesian Bush War, since in neither case did any of the combatants seek to secede from the existing state to form a new one, but rather to take control of the country in its entirety. Another one that stands out is the Saudi Arabian wars of unification, which can’t be a war of independence since the Saudi state was already independent by 1902, well before the unification of the kingdom, and a full 14 years before Hejaz’s independence, which is given as one of the countries Saudi Arabia “gained independence” from. If we want to be specific, Saudi Arabia technically didn’t gain independence from anyone, since that particular state came about from the unification of multiple independent countries.

Theres probably other questionable cases, but those three particularly stand out as not belonging here, but I also notice an omission, the Red River Rebellion is included, but not the Northwest Rebellion?

Overall, I think this list needs to be given a good look over to determine which really do count as wars of independence, as well as to check for any missing ones. I don’t really have the expertise to judge them all myself, so I’ll leave that to those more qualified.

In the mean time, I’ll remove the three wars I mentioned as standing out. Crazy Boris (talk) 05:31, 11 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Kashmir conflict

edit

I really think that the Kashmir conflict is an ongoing War of Independence by any definition. The conflict has a strong element of freedom fighting since 1947. The organisations, though not bound by a border, are pretty much active in the region to establish at least a form of autonomy if not Independence. Thus I strongly recommend to include the conflict in this article under a separate heading. Lightningblade23 (talk) 13:21, 26 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
