Made Minor Changes
editI edited paragraph three of the section "life and work". I removed a couple interpretive comments, and some unsourced contradictory statements and restructured a few things to improve the grammar and flow. It might need a little more polishing as I avoided making any major changes. It's also still sorely lacking in citation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.207.209.151 (talk) 02:01, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
What was Borden before he turned christian?
editQuote: "Borden was converted to Christianity under the ministry of Dwight L. Moody." - But what was he before he became a christian? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.173.224.105 (talk) 09:43, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Apparently he was converted as a child of 7, although he had been part of a churchgoing family all of his life. I guess you could say "unregenerate", but I wouldn't go so far as to say he was a "profligate". Does that help?Brian0324 (talk) 18:42, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
The Bible
editI would be really interested to know the primary source for the writing in Borden's Bible. I have read elsewhere (Biographical Dictionary of Christian Missions 1998) that the writing was on a crumpled piece of paper. And yet the common story somehow has it written in a Bible - and apparently dated?
An example of the alternate (of course, both could be true!) story here: Borden of Yale — Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.215.191.48 (talk) 01:17, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
I think the story is likely untrue - I haven't been able to find a copy of "Borden of Yale," but other works that claim to be based on it do not include the phrase "No reserve, No retreat, No regret" - and I think they would, they are so dramatic. The phrase does describe his life well though. As examples, there is Warren Weirsbe's article on him in 50 People Every Christian Should Know pg. 340ff https://books.google.ca/books?id=UxkpvdYikRgC&q=william+borden#v=snippet&q=william%20borden&f=false and also the Christianity.com timeline article http://www.christianity.com/church/church-history/timeline/1901-2000/millionaire-borden-of-yale-gave-all-for-christ-11630700.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 135.23.244.173 (talk) 23:00, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
