Censorship in Germany

edit

The article makes it seem (at least to me) as if the games were censored in Germany because you kill nazis. In fact, they were censored because of the generous use of swastikas and other symbols forbidden in the Federal Republic. Just saying. 91.43.118.234 (talk) 12:54, 2 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

new wolfenstein on ps3

edit

to whoever is changing the info on the new wolfenstein to include the ps3, post a link to your source, last i heard it was only confirmed for the xbox 360 (its primary platform) and the pc and i have seen nothing on the ps3, so please post a link to where SOMEONE FROM ID said its either going to the ps3 or was changed over to tech 5.

Happy now? User: Jericho1337 22:22, 22 Aug 2007 (UTC)

no actually, its not that i dont believe this but i find it odd that it seems that only ps3 specific sites/fansites that have this news info. i would assume that if it were true that gamespot or ign or any of the other news orginizations that covered quakecon would have mentioned it in the exact same article, however none of them do. they do mention that rage is coming to everything, the wolfenstein movie, and a new quake based on tech 5, all things that the articles on the ps3 sites cover as well, but no mention of the new wolfenstein for the ps3 what so ever. also is the fact that none of these sites gives the source for the information either, just that "id said its coming to the ps3". its not that i dont necessaraly disbelieve it, its just that i find it odd.

Heres a link from a non-PS3 specific page: http://www.gamingtarget.com/article.php?artid=7342

IGN page: http://ps3.ign.com/objects/954/954876.html

Whether its PS3 specific or not, I doubt they would lie. User: Jericho1337 22:49, 29 Aug 2007 (UTC)

First two games

edit

These did not feature "B.J." Blazkowicz, I have changed the article to reflect this. Skylarkingnz (talk) 04:17, 18 September 2009 (UTC)SkylarkingnzReply

first 2 games

edit

Are they really part of the series? In the first game(Castle Wolfenstein) it says it was an inspiration for id to make Wolfenstein 3-D. I don't think they have anything to do with eachother beyond that. Anyone know anything about when something classifies as part of a certain series? 77.168.211.168 (talk) 22:07, 18 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

1981 section

edit

"Created by Silas Warner, who left a legacy behind the production of the material, and inspired a set of sequels that employ a different genre yet containing the same ideology inside." I literally have no idea what that sentence means. NewkirkPlaza (talk) 11:59, 7 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

The result of the move request was: MOVED dabless to (disambiguation), (series) to dabless, leave Wolfenstein (video game) redirecting to Wolfenstein Ben · Salvidrim!  18:11, 20 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

– As by far the most popular and well-known application of this word, it qualifies as the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. People around the world know about the Wolfenstein video games, while not many visit the pages of the couple of people with that name, or the rock. This goes beyond mere recentism, as the series has been a mainstay for decades. ZXCVBNM (TALK) 11:13, 13 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

I also agree, Wolfenstein (video game) should point to the WP:CONCEPTDAB "Wolfenstein".--Cúchullain t/c 16:20, 14 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Game rankings

edit

With regard to the removal of Gamerankings from reviews, this seems to be a bit of a pointy exercise. The IP editor claims that under WP:VGAGG his edits are correct, but "newer" is a very subjective term, and the initial removal also took out games which are unequivocally old - Wolfenstein 3D which started the whole franchise was released in 1981, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein was released in 2001 - making it 18 years old itself.

If you want justification to remove Gameranking, fine, but don't remove older ones when your own rationale supports inclusion, not removal.

Also, don't cast insults just because somebody disagrees with you - WP:NPA if you please.

You seem to be involved in some kind of vendetta with ferret much better to take it up with them on their (or your) talk page rather than disrupt the encyclopedia just to prove a point. Chaheel Riens (talk) 09:23, 15 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Chaheel Riens: I've given the IP a warning about the POINTY removals as well as pinging me on every edit they make... This stems from a revert I made of the IP (only once) where they added GR to a page that did not have it (and did not need it). -- ferret (talk) 13:13, 15 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Wolfsschanze → Wolfenstein

edit

The inspiration of the fictional name "Wolfenstein" was arguably derived from Wolfsschanze (Wolf's Lair). Hippo99 (talk) 11:35, 1 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Is that your interpretation or based on a reliable source? IceWelder [] 12:16, 1 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

History section

edit

I recently added to the history section of this article and was curios if more expansion is needed before the 'Expand section' template can be removed Huey117 (talk) 09:49, 12 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Your addition was great, but the section needs far more than two new sentences. The first paragraph very briefly covers the first 10 years of the series, but barely goes into any details about the actual development. The second paragraph basically lists all of the games over the last 30 years without any actual information. The section needs far more expansion. For some examples, see FAs like Final Fantasy and Sonic the Hedgehog. – Rhain 23:59, 12 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I'll try to expand the history section more when I have time, and I'll definitely look into those examples, thanks for the tips. Huey117 (talk) 04:20, 13 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

I looked at the Sonic the Hedgehog Wikipedia page and decided to expand the history section of this article more, I'm hoping to continue to expand it further by discussing the development and direction of each developer Huey117 (talk) 10:12, 13 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Good start! – Rhain 12:02, 13 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Sorry it took a few days but I've continued to expand the history section; I've talked about id Software and Wolfenstein 3D and the impact the game had on the first-person shooter genre. I'm still hoping to continue to talk about how each new developer changed the Wolfenstein series and how they affected future Wolfenstein games. Huey117 (talk) 08:16, 16 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

You don't need to apologise; there's no time limit on Wikipedia, so take as long as you need. At quick glance, your additions look good! Bonus points for adding references to everything too. – Rhain 22:45, 16 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

The old blood as a loose remake

edit

When reading the section on the old blood, I was intrigued by the description as it being a loose remake of return to castle wolfenstein. However, this is primarily unsourced and the main article on the old blood says that it pays homage or makes reference to. Should the article be rephrased here? Because it may hold similarities since machinegames rebooted the series, but without a source or without proper evidence of the intention to be a loose remake i don’t know if it’s appropriate. WesPhil (talk) 03:19, 7 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

I’ll also say in general the section on each game needs a lot of work. There are sentences that are in need of better wording and sources when possible “original research” may be apparent.
