Needs Clarification
It seems a bit confusing that the intro paragraph cites Women's cinema as generally films made by women and then throughout the article, it seems to be implied that they have to be feminist films. Either way, it should be clarified in the introductory paragraph. The introduction also seems a bit negatively charged when it says at the end that women don't want to be associated with 'women's cinema' because they are marginalized. I think that is an important point, but maybe to put later in the article. I do wonder like a user below how a filmmaker makes the cut for this page? Is it feminist filmmakers or just filmmakers that are women?
to Scryer who wrote that Kathryn Bigelow should not be on the list, I strongly disagree. Even though she has made films in the past that cater to the male gaze, her latest film Zero Dark Thirty is one of the strongest cases of a pro-woman film that I have seen in a long time. That is why if the criteria for filmmakers to be mentioned on this page is that they are feminist, there will still be an issue of deciding who goes on. Since Bigelow has made feminist and non-feminist films, would she make the cut?

i'm not gonna bother, but..
women's cinema? not even gonna try and nominate this for deletion, but this page is soon gonna become unmanageable as wikipedians finally find there are several women involved in cinema, more than it is reasonable to consider this a specific category. 201.83.29.118 20:13, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
This is really poor information, you're missing great directors and, of course, deeper information and analysis- Showing no interest in this subject is an affirmation on women situation in the film industry...

sadness of the abandoned subject
Is there anyone here? I would like to stimulate this project. The first thing it needs is an overhaul of the main page, it's sadly lacking in uniformity or coherence. All the subcategories and pages should be linked here, such as Category:Women screenwriters, Category:Female film directors etc.. I am loathe to make an official project out of it, but I will if I have to. The fact that Female and Women is being used arbitrarily gives me a headache, something has to be moved. film selection
Can someone tell em the criteria for selecting the films on the this page? for a the forty year span between 1893 and 1943 there are less than a dozen films listed. There were many more films from that era where women were the primary artist.Is this an article or a list? I can only join in with the choir
This page is pathetic. It looks more like white women's cinema. Shu Shuen and The Arch are more significant than most filmmakers and films on the page. Kao Pao-shu may not be a great filmmaker, but she has made a handful of genre classics (martial arts/action) in the 1970s. And since they do not have 2nd unit directors in Hong Kong--only directors, assistant directors and action director (and if you are listed as an action director in a Hong Kong movie, it means you have directed half the movie, according to Donnie Yen)--then actress/stuntwoman/action-martial arts director Yeung Ching-ching could be included. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.253.73.146 (talk) 16:40, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
Non-feminist directors mentioned... why?
Why is it that Kathyrine Bigelow and Catherine Hardwicke are mentioned as examples of "women's cinema" directors? In the article on Male Gaze "Twilight" is represented as a modern example of objectifying material, and Bigelow directed "Point Break" which has us in the seat gazing at Lori Petty.
Hardly feminist, is all.
Changing the Introduction
