Merger proposal

edit

I believe this article needs to be merged with Newton Aycliffe. For the following reasons:

  • Woodham 'Village' is simply a housing estate within Newton Aycliffe and therefore notability is in question - it is managed by Great Aycliffe Town Council (ref - [1]). I believe the use of the word 'Village' was just a ploy to attract people wanting to escape the unsociable and busy town life.
  • The article is very trivial - it doesn't have a basis - it seems just to be a random arrangement of knowledge.
  • None of the article is referenced - By searching the following phrases - 'Woodham County Durham' and 'Woodham Newton Aycliffe' on Google - I can safely say there's no reliable online sources about Woodham estate. (The search does return property advertisements on estate agent websites - which aren't reliable, Information about Woodham CTC and Woodham Golf Club - which aren't in the estate).
    Thanks

I totally agree. Woodham is nothing but an extension to Newton Aycliffe itself. One doesn't see signs saying "Welcome to Woodham." And places such as Woodham Gold Course are only named so in order to place them within the town, as is shown with St. Oswald's Park or Moore Lane Park. --AycliffeAngel (talk) 00:15, 25 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
This sounds pretty sensible, particularly the referencing part. Enough time has elapsed without opposition that you can probably just do it now. Alzarian16 (talk) 19:13, 16 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

I've grown up solely in Woodham and consider myself to be from Woodham, not Newton Aycliffe. Though technically an area of the town, Woodham is arguably as independent as Aycliffe Village, with it's own community centre, church and village green/ park. I feel it would be a poor idea to merge. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.208.83.207 (talk) 02:38, 12 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
