Non members

edit

Should Afghanistan be added to the list of non-members? What about Transdniester, Abkhazia and other de facto independent territories? Don't they operate their own customs? --84.20.17.84 10:02, 8 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Contradicting maps

File:WTO negotiations (May 2010).png and File:World Trade Organization negotiations.svg need to be harmonized. I don't know off hand which is correct, if one is. Calbaer (talk) 06:39, 27 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

I noticed a brief edit war in the history over this. Since I disagree with the current version of the article, bringing it up here.

The two sides of the argument are:

  • The member list should display the flag of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and pipe-link to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, while displaying the text "Afghanistan", like this:   Afghanistan
  • The member list should display the flag of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and link directly to the article Afghanistan, like this:   Afghanistan

The current version of the article is the second version. I'm arguing that the first version makes more sense.

Since the flag is uncontested, it doesn't make sense for the link to take to the user to the unrecognized regime that doesn't have that flag. It makes sense for the link to take the user to the version of Afghanistan that does have that flag.

User:Danlaycock argues in the edit history that "neither the republic nor the emirate governments are members, the country of Afghanistan is." My counter-argument is: From the WTO's perspective, saying 'the country of Afghanistan is a member' and 'the country of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is a member' is identical, because from the WTO's perspective, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is Afghanistan.
