Article purpose/structure
editIs the purpose of this article to list alumni and students of the Xavier Institute, or to describe how the student body is organised? If it is the second then it seems to me that the groups listed under student body could be more precisely categorised.
Some groups are teams (Original X-Men through to Generation X), others are the house like "six-member squads formed to facilitate the training and development of the older students at the Xavier Institute", while still others are special classes (special class) or informal student groups (Omega Gang).
Rather than just Student body, I think there should a section each for:
- teams that have grown out of the various Xavier-related schools (X-men, Gen X, etc.),
- the squads (Hellions, etc.), including why and when they were set up, and their disbanding after Decimation,
- the Lower School,
- specific classes, and
- student groups, like the Omega gang.
Each of these sections would then have a sub-section for each of groups of that type (as there is now) with some descriptive text, list of members, team status and link to the group's main article (eg. Generation X).
I'm not sure whether the list of unattached students under Other students should be included here. For, the squads only existed for a specific period, thus unspecified affiliation only applies to a discrete period. Maybe those students who attended the school during that time and were not linked to a specific team could be listed under the squads section. Alternatively, there could be a separate list of Xavier school/academy/institute students.
An alternative to the above proposed structure would be to chronologically list the organisation of the student body as the numbers of students has grown and shrunk.
Finally, some consideration should be given to the doubling up of information with the article List of X-Men.
I don't read the books, so would prefer a more knowledgeable editor to act on this suggestion. Journeyman 05:17, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

editWhen did this dude graduate? With Cyclops and Angel? Or was he still a student while they were just kind of hanging around eating Xavier's food and not gettin a job like they said they would? Because there seems to be a dispute over this.--Chris Griswold 05:37, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
Staff
editBesides Xavier, who no longer works there, isn't Beast the only one with a graduate degree? Hell, I don't think most of them even have their bachelors! Husk, Gambit, and Rogue don't. I know that they have experience in some field or another, but in the real world I thought you'd at least need a masters to teach at a fancy private school like that. I mean people give Iceman a hard time but at least he's a CPA.--Wakefencer
Missing characters
editI would like to add these characters, but I have not been actively shaping this article, so could someone else either add these characters or tell me why they are not listed as students?
Early X-Men team: Mimic, Havok, Polaris All-New, All Different X-Men: Are these characters no considered mutants? Aren't they working on the control of their powers in addition to punching people in the face? Replacement X-Men: Moira's and Xavier's students who went to Krakoa to rescue the old team? Oh, and Kitty Pryde is not a New Mutant; we need to find a better place for her, preferably with Nightcrawler and Colossus.--Chris Griswold 19:40, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure all of these can be called students (unless you take the stance that everybody learning to control his/her power is a student). At least Moira's team shouldn't be on the list anyway; they were students at the Muir Island research station, not at the Xavier Institute. Dizzy D 21:37, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
198?
editWhat is "the 198?" This term is used throughout the article with no elaboration. --AdamBackstrom (talk) 14:12, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- Good point. I've added a link to the 198 article in this article's first mention of the term. Dizzy D 11:57, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
When Students Joined?
editHey what do people think about having the issue when the students joined? I had a idea over at the List of X-Men Teams about making Disambiguation page there and linking this page instead of having a list of students there. Just seeing what people thing?--Jas0n22193 01:07, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:NewMutantsII.png
editImage:NewMutantsII.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Hydro (comics) merge
editHydro is a stub of a stub, and since he's dead and depowered he probably isn't coming back. All it would take to merge him to this article is to add that he drowned after losing his powers. -Freak104 (talk) 05:50, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

A little confusing
editIt should be made clearer which groups who belongs to the past and which ones are present. 84.48.35.203 (talk) 22:55, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
What's confusing is that members of Young X-Men - Ink and Graymalkin - are listed on this page at all. The Xavier Institute was in Salem Center and was destroyed. These two were never students at the school. They shouldn't be on this page.Ferroboy (talk) 09:28, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:Newxhel001.jpg
editThe image Image:Newxhel001.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
- That this article is linked to from the image description page.
