Requested move 18 January 2018
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: no consensus to move the page at this time, per the discussion below. For future reference, while it says little about English usage, the article on the Korean Wikipedia is at "Kim Junsu" (in Hangul). Dekimasuよ! 03:57, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
Kim Junsu → Xia (singer) – Xia is his stage name, which can be seen on his signature too. CherryPie94 (talk) 10:04, 18 January 2018 (UTC) --Relisting. Ⓩⓟⓟⓘⓧ Talk 21:22, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
- Comment no opinion on the merits of the move, but Xia (singer) is currently unoccupied. Either someone should create it as a {{R from incomplete disambiguation}} if there's other singers called Xia, or it should be the proposed target for this move request. 59.149.124.29 (talk) 16:53, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, we should use Xia (singer). I thought there was a page occupying it, but apparently not. Changed in the request above. Thanks. CherryPie94 (talk) 20:23, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
- Agreed - Individual is better known by his stage name, and Xia (singer) does not seem to be occupied so it may as well be moved to said location. Abdotorg (talk) 17:02, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
- Agreed per comments above Alexanderlee (talk) 17:12, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose The singer is often called by the name "Junsu". For example, the first sentence of the JYJ article refers to him as "Junsu". (In South Korea though, "Xia Junsu" seems to be the most common way to call him.) --Phonet (talk) 10:36, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
- Then if we keep the real name, we should change it to Kim Jun-su with an hyphen, as has been done to most Korean names Talk:Kim Jong-hyun (singer)#Requested move. CherryPie94 (talk) 20:21, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
- @CherryPie94: Not according to the Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Korean). Korean names "should generally be romanized according to their common usage in English sources." The syllables are hyphenated "if there is no personal preference, and no established English spelling". The unhyphenated name "Junsu" is used by the majority of English sources. --Phonet (talk) 05:51, 20 January 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose See Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Korean)#Given name. And a hyphen in Revised Romanization of Korean is only used to connect over two mistakable Korean words (like Gaeul; 가을 autumn or 개울 stream), or words about Korean administrative units or river etc. This means, a hyphen in Korean name is not always necessary. Above all things, in this case that the name Junsu is not mistakable with others, I think. Thanks. --Garam (talk) 10:28, 21 January 2018 (UTC)
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
