Usage

The {{WikiProject Weather}} project banner template should be added (not subst:ed) to the talk page of every article within the scope of the project. While the template does not require any additional parameters, it has a number of optional ones that add various extra features to the banner. The syntax is as follows:

General parameters

• class – valid values are listed in the custom class mask. See the project's quality scale for details. Setting an explicit value of NA is rarely necessary; for this, either leave |class= blank or omit the parameter.
• importance – valid values are: top, high, mid, low, na (case-insensitive). See the project's importance scale for details. Setting an explicit value of NA is rarely necessary; for this, either leave |importance= blank or omit the parameter.
• attention – set |attention=yes if the article needs immediate attention from experienced editors. Use only if another parameter does not cover the need for attention; this should be used sparingly. It is strongly encouraged to also add a section to the talk page explaining what needs attention.
  • This parameter populates Category:Weather articles needing attention.
• needs-infobox – set |needs-infobox=yes if the article needs an infobox. Remember that infoboxes are not suitable for all articles, and can overwhelm short articles.
  • This parameter populates Category:Weather articles needing infoboxes.
• listas – This parameter, which is the equivalent of the DEFAULTSORT sortkey that should be placed on all biographical articles, is a sortkey for the article talk page (e.g. for John Doe, use |listas=Doe, John so that the talk page will show up in the D's and not the J's of the various assessment and administrative categories). This is important because it is one source used by those who set DEFAULTSORT on the article; consider also setting the DEFAULTSORT for the article when setting this parameter.   If the article is using {{WikiProject banner shell}} then it is preferable to add |listas= to that template instead of a project banner template. Putting the parameter on more than one template is not required.

Special use only

• category – set |category=no if, and only if, a banner is being used for demonstration or testing purposes, to prevent unnecessary or undesirable categorization. Otherwise, omit this parameter.

WikiProject and task force specific

• tropical-cyclones-project – set |tropical-cyclones-project=yes if the article is supported by the Tropical cyclones project.
  • This parameter populates Category:WikiProject Tropical cyclones articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Tropical cyclone articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • This parameter uses |importance= to populate the relevant subcategory of Category:Tropical cyclone articles by importance.
• atl-task-force – set |atl-task-force=yes if the article is supported by the Atlantic hurricane task force.
  • This parameter populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Atlantic hurricane articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • This parameter uses |importance= to populate the relevant subcategory of Category:Atlantic hurricane articles by importance.
• epac-task-force – set |epac-task-force=yes if the article is supported by the Pacific hurricane task force.
  • This parameter populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Pacific hurricane articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.

• wpac-task-force – set |wpac-task-force=yes if the article is supported by the Pacific typhoon task force.
  • This parameter populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Pacific typhoon articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.

• nio-task-force – set |nio-task-force=yes if the article is supported by the North Indian Ocean task force.
  • This parameter populates the relevant subcategory of Category:North Indian tropical cyclone articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • This parameter uses |importance= to populate the relevant subcategory of Category:North Indian tropical cyclone articles by importance.
• shem-task-force – set |shem-task-force=yes if the article is supported by the Southern Hemisphere work group.
  • This parameter populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Southern Hemisphere tropical cyclone articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • This parameter uses |importance= to populate the relevant subcategory of Category:Southern Hemisphere tropical cyclone articles by importance.
• non-tropical-storms-task-force – set |non-tropical-storms-task-force=yes if the article is supported by the Non-tropical storms task force.
  • This parameter populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Non-tropical storm articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
