Usage

When you create or find a new page within the scope of WikiProject New York City please add any of the following to the top of its talk page:

Unused parameters may be omitted. This template automatically adds articles to Category:WikiProject New York City articles.

Optional parameters

• art – set |art=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Public Art/NYC.
  • This parameter populates Category:WikiProject Public Art articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Public Art articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
• attention – set |attention=yes if the article needs immediate attention from experienced editors. Use only if another parameter does not cover the need for attention; this should be used sparingly. It is strongly encouraged to also add a section to the talk page explaining what needs attention.
  • This parameter populates Category:New York City articles needing attention.
• chinese – set |chinese=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Chinese in New York City.
  • This parameter populates Category:WikiProject Chinese in New York City articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Chinese in New York City articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • chinese-importance (only used if |chinese=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within WikiProject Chinese in New York City
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Chinese in New York City articles by importance.
• class – valid values are listed in the custom class mask. See the project's quality scale for details. Setting an explicit value of NA is rarely necessary; for this, either leave |class= blank or omit the parameter.
• geocoord-needed – set |geocoord-needed=yes if the page lacks Geocoordinate data.
  • This parameter populates Category:New York City articles missing geocoordinate data.
• image-needed – set |image-needed=yes to request that a photograph or image be included in the page to improve its quality.
  • This parameter populates Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in New York City.
  • image-details – (appears only if |image-needed=yes) Additional details to describe the image that is requested.
• importance – valid values are: top, high, mid, low, na (case-insensitive). See the project's importance scale for details. Setting an explicit value of NA is rarely necessary; for this, either leave |importance= blank or omit the parameter.
• listas – This parameter, which is the equivalent of the DEFAULTSORT sortkey that should be placed on all biographical articles, is a sortkey for the article talk page (e.g. for Peter Stuyvesant, use |listas=Stuyvesant, Peter so that the talk page will show up in the S's and not the P's of the various assessment and administrative categories). This is important because it is one source used by those who set DEFAULTSORT on the article; consider also setting the DEFAULTSORT for the article when setting this parameter.   If the article is using {{WikiProject banner shell}} then it is preferable to add |listas= to that template instead of a project banner template. Putting the parameter on more than one template is not required.
• map-needed – set |map-needed=yes to request that a map or maps be included in the page to improve its quality.
  • This parameter populates Category:Wikipedia requested maps in New York City.
  • map-details – (appears only if |map-needed=yes) Additional details to specify the kind of map information that is needed.
• needs-infobox – set |needs-infobox=yes if the article needs an infobox. Remember that infoboxes are not suitable for all articles, and can overwhelm short articles.
  • This parameter populates Category:New York City articles needing infoboxes.
• theatre – set |theatre=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject New York City/Theatre.
  • This parameter populates Category:All New York City theatre articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:New York City theatre articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • theatre-importance (only used if |theatre=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within WikiProject New York City/Theatre
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:New York City theatre articles by importance.
• transportation – set |transportation=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject New York City Public Transportation.
  • This parameter populates Category:All New York City public transportation articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:New York City public transportation articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • transportation-importance (only used if |transportation=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within WikiProject New York City Public Transportation
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:New York City public transportation articles by importance.
  • The |transportation= and |transportation-importance= parameters are not necessary if {{WikiProject New York City Public Transportation}} is on the page already, or if {{WikiProject Trains}} is on the page with the parameter |NYPT=yes filled out.
• unref – set |unref=yes if the page lacks sufficient references and adequate inline citations.
  • This parameter populates Category:New York City articles needing references.
• auto – This parameter is for the use of bots and indicates that the article has been automatically rated:
  • |auto=length – based on the length of the article
  • |auto=inherit – because one or more other projects use this class
  • |auto=yes (or |auto=stub), in conjunction with |class=stub – as Stub-Class because it uses a stub template
    • Use of the above values (or value combinations) with this parameter populates Category:Automatically assessed New York City articles.
• category – set |category=no if, and only if, a banner is being used for demonstration or testing purposes, to prevent unnecessary or undesirable categorization. Otherwise, omit this parameter.
