Template:R from miscapitalisation
(Redirected from Template:R from incorrect capitalization)
When used with the "Redirect category shell" (Rcat shell) template:
This page is a redirect. The following categories are used to track and monitor this redirect:
|
- Template Redirect category shell may be used to add one or more rcat templates, along with their parameters and categories, to a redirect. For more information, see the documentation page below.
When used by itself:
- From a miscapitalisation: This is a redirect from a capitalisation error. The correct form is given by the target of the redirect.
- This redirect is made available to aid searches or to maintain links. Pages that use this link should be updated to link directly to the correct form without using a piped link hiding the correct details.
- This template tags redirects with the Redirects from miscapitalisations category, a subcategory of Redirects from incorrect names, so template R from incorrect name should not be used with this template.
This template is used on approximately 25,000 pages and changes may be widely noticed. Test changes in the template's /sandbox or /testcases subpages, or in your own user subpage. Consider discussing changes on the talk page before implementing them. |
This template should not be substituted nor used to tag soft redirects. |
If you plan to make breaking changes to this template, move it, or nominate it for deletion, please notify Twinkle's users and maintainers at Wikipedia talk:Twinkle as a courtesy, as the standard installation of Twinkle adds and removes this template. Thank you! |
Usage
- Use this redirect category (rcat) template on a redirect in the following manner:
#REDIRECT (target page name)

- and when the redirect is in article mainspace, printworthiness should also be tagged:
#REDIRECT (target article title)

- Template Rcat shell is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:
#REDIRECT (target page name)
R from miscapitalisation
- This is in accord with instructions found at Wikipedia:REDCAT.
- Example: the mainspace article redirect Pope francis is tagged:
#REDIRECT Pope Francis

- or if used individually:
#REDIRECT Pope Francis
R from miscapitalisation
R unprintworthy
- This template takes a parameter, either unnamed (
|1=
) or named (|of=
) that may be used to provide the correct form when it is not the same as the target page's title – for example when an alternate name for the article has been miscapitalised. Supply the correct name as the first parameter in any of the following ways:

or

or
(correct form)
or

- Example: the miscapitalised redirect Westminster palace employs:
#REDIRECT Palace of Westminster

Please do not alter the printworthy settings of this rcat without first notifying the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, who are responsible for any and all materials, including redirects, that go into a printed version of Wikipedia. |
- This rcat populates Category:Redirects from miscapitalisations and Category:Unprintworthy redirects by default. In 2003, efforts were begun to support the Wikimedia Foundation's goal of increasing access and availability of Wikipedia articles in printed versions. Most miscapitalisations are not suitable for a printed version. In other words they are unprintworthy. Here is what to do for those few miscapitalisations that are printworthy:
- If a mainspace redirect is a miscapitalisation that is deemed to be printworthy, then the default listing in the Unprintworthy redirects category can be subdued and the redirect categorized as printworthy by use of the second parameter:

or if applied individually:

or use two pipes to make an empty first parameter:

- Note 1: All redirects that are in main-article namespace (mainspace) are considered either printworthy (usable in printed versions of Wikipedia) or unprintworthy. When an untagged redirect is found, please decide its printworthiness and tag it appropriately.
- Note 2: If used individually with the
|of=
parameter employed, and the redirect is deemed printworthy, then the second parameter must be applied as|2=printworthy
in the following manner:

- If "2=" is not used, then unexpected results will occur, even when applied individually.
- Note 3: Redirects from miscapitalisations should not be directly linked. Pipe the title with possibilities to a disambiguated title, for example:
- Jim Blythe, which appears as Jim Blythe
- Important note: When this rcat is used together with R with possibilities, the Unprintworthy category must be subdued or else the redirect will populate both Printworthy and Unprintworthy categories, which of course is unacceptable.
- This rcat may be used to tag redirects from homoglyphs and homographs when they have been created in error or specifically made available as search terms.
