Usage
The {{WikiProject Melanesia}} project banner template should be added (not subst:ed) to the talk page of every article within the scope of the project. While the template does not require any additional parameters, it has a number of optional ones that add various extra features to the banner. The full syntax is as follows:

General parameters:
- class – a rating of the article's quality; see the assessment department for more details.
- attention – "yes" if the article requires immediate attention; see Category:Melanesia articles needing attention for more details on when this should be used.
- needs-image – set
|needs-image=yesto request that a photograph, map, drawing, diagram, equation, or other image be added to the page. Leave blank or delete if not. - in: Used in conjunction with the needs-image=yes parameter to place the image request into a specific location, such as a country. Leave blank or delete if not.
- Additional in2 and in3 parameters are used in conjunction with the needs-image=yes parameter and may be used to specify up to three location categories (such as for celebrities and other people who may frequent multiple county locations).
- This parameter populates Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Melanesia.
- needs-map – set
|needs-map=yesto request that a range map be included in the article to improve its quality. - in: Used in conjunction with the needs-map=yes parameter to place the image request into a specific location, such as a country. Leave blank or delete if not.
- Additional in2 and in3 parameters are used in conjunction with the needs-map=yes parameter and may be used to specify up to three location categories (such as for celebrities and other people who may frequent multiple county locations).
- This parameter populates Category:Wikipedia requested maps in Melanesia.
- needs-geocoord – set
|needs-geocoord=yesto request that geocoordinate data be included.- This parameter populates Category:Melanesia articles missing geocoordinate data.
- PNG – "yes" if the article is supported by the Papua New Guinea work group.
- SI – "yes" if the article is supported by the Solomon Islands task force.
- Vanuatu – "yes" if the article is supported by the Vanuatu work group.
- NC – "yes" if the article is supported by the New Caledonia work group.
To avoid needlessly cluttering up talk pages, it is usually appropriate to remove any unused parameters from the template.
