This is the WikiProject banner template used by WikiProject South America to keep track of articles within its scope.All articles are categorised into Category:WikiProject South America articles.

Basic usage

Place this on the talk page of relevant articles:

Parameters

• category – set |category=no if, and only if, a banner is being used for demonstration or testing purposes, to prevent unnecessary or undesirable categorization. Otherwise, omit this parameter.
• listas – this parameter, which is the equivalent of the DEFAULTSORT sortkey that should be placed on all biographical articles, is a sortkey for the article talk page (e.g. for John Smith, use |listas=Smith, John so that the talk page will show up in the Smith's and not the John's of the various assessment and administrative categories. Similarly, for topics with titles beginning with an article such as "the" or "a" - e.g. for The Matrix, use |listas=Matrix, The so that the talk page will show up in the Matrix's. This is important because it is one source used by those who set DEFAULTSORT on the article; consider also setting the DEFAULTSORT for the article when setting this parameter. For more information about this, please see Wikipedia:Categorization of people#Ordering names in a category. It is not required if another WikiProject template on the same page has its own {{para|listas}} set, since it affects the sortkey of all banners and templates.
• class – see #Quality assessment below.
• importance – see #Importance assessment below.

Notes and alerts

• attention – set |attention=yes if the article needs immediate attention from experienced editors. Use only if another parameter does not cover the need for attention; this should be used sparingly. It is strongly encouraged to also add a section to the talk page explaining what needs attention. This parameter populates Category:South America articles needing attention.
• needs-infobox – set |needs-infobox=yes if the article needs an infobox. Remember that infoboxes are not suitable for all articles, and can overwhelm short articles. This parameter populates Category:South America articles without infoboxes.

• Argentina – set |Argentina=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Argentina. This parameter populates Category:WikiProject Argentina articles. This parameter populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Argentine articles by quality based on the |class= parameter. This parameter uses |Argentina-importance= to populate the relevant subcategory of Category:Argentine articles by importance.
• Bolivia – set |Bolivia=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Bolivia. This parameter populates Category:WikiProject Bolivia articles. This parameter populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Bolivia articles by quality based on the |class= parameter. This parameter uses |Bolivia-importance= to populate the relevant subcategory of Category:Bolivia articles by importance.
• Brazil – set |Brazil=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Brazil. This parameter populates Category:WikiProject Brazil articles. This parameter populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Brazil articles by quality based on the |class= parameter. • Chile – set |Chile=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Chile. This parameter populates Category:WikiProject Chile articles. • Colombia – set |Colombia=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Colombia. This parameter populates Category:WikiProject Colombia articles. This parameter populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Colombia articles by quality based on the |class= parameter. This parameter uses |Colombia-importance= to populate the relevant subcategory of Category:Colombia articles by importance.
• Ecuador – set |Ecuador=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Ecuador. This parameter populates Category:WikiProject Ecuador articles. Classification of redirects and disambiguation pages

If the |class= parameter is not defined and the WikiProject banner is placed on the talk page of a redirect (in any namespace) or disambigation page then it will automatically be classified as follows:

• Redirects will automatically be classified as Redirect-class and placed in Category:Redirect-Class South America articles.
• Disambiguation pages will automatically be classified as Disambig-class and placed in Category:Disambig-Class South America articles.

Classification based on namespace

In addition, if |class= is empty, undefined or unrecognized, then the class will be deduced from the namespace of the page when possible.
