Linking to Wikidata and using Template:Historical populations?

edit

Spanish Wikipedia has a visually identical template to this one (Plantilla:Población histórica por censo de Costa Rica), with the added bonus of being easier to expand because it uses the preexisting template Plantilla:Población histórica, which is identical to our Template:Historical populations, and automatically updates by querying information from Wikidata instead of having to input it manually. I like this implementation better and would suggest porting it over. If the template preview is to be trusted, porting their code over seems to work with very little changes needed and it won't break our articles that already use the template. Any objections? Adding to this, I have made a sandbox (Template:CR Census population/sandbox) to serve as an example of how the final template could look if this change is made. Rubýñ (Scold) 19:46, 27 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I've gone forth with the edit after 2 weeks of complete inactivity and non-response from anyone on the matter. No pages seem to have broken. Rubýñ (Scold) 21:30, 7 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
