1912 variant
edit
I would like to request a 1912 variant of the flag. As in the Philippine national football team article, the biggest win came in 1917, which is in the period of 1912-1919 when the 48 star flag was used. Banana Fingers (talk) 07:14, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

Needs to be majorly updated. Please check the flag article
Also articles currently using the current 1898 label should adopt the Aguinaldo label (to differentiate Aguinaldo's revolutionary flag from the American flag). The current 1901 label is inaccurate because that flag was adopted and used in the Philippines by 1898 (ie raising of the flag on Fort Santiago on August 13, 1898) The current articles using the 1919 label should adopt the new 1936 label where appropriate because a different flag existed before 1936 (articles based between 1919 and 1936 should retain the 1919 label). The current 1981 label is incorrect and should be 1985 when it was actually used.
A link should also be added for Template:Country data Second Philippine Republic

- Hi User 50. I've added your requested changes to the sandbox. I'm a little concerned that changing the aliases might unduly break existing articles, though. Do you know how many articles would be affected, and would you be willing to go through and fix them? Best — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 10:28, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
- Few articles use the 1981 label, they can easily be changed to 1985. I don't think articles using the current 1919 label would be majorly affected as the flag that will now occupy that label looks similar to the one currently being used, and can be gradually replaced with either the 1936 or 1986 label. For now, let's leave the current 1898 and 1901 labels (to be replaced with Aguinaldo and 1898 later). The rest (1535, 1821, 1873, 1875, 1908, 1912, 1936, 1986) can be added with no problems. --User 50 13:06, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
- Partly done: Sorry for the delay in getting round to this. I had a look at the transclusion count for this template, and it has about 25,000 transclusions, which I thought was too much to just remove some of the variant parameter names. Instead, I've added only the variants where there was no name overlap. For the proposed variant names where there was an overlap (1898, 1901, 1919, and 1981), I have configured the template to add the transcluded pages to Category:Country data Philippines transclusions with obsolete parameters. I considered adding these variants with different names, but that seemed a bit too messy, as we want to change the names eventually. Instead, I think the best procedure would be as follows:
- Allow some time for the changes for the category to filter through the system. Sometimes the job queue can be very slow, so this might take a couple of weeks.
- Update all the pages in the category to use the correct variant names.
- Once the category is empty, file another protected edit request here to add the new, correct values for the variant names and to remove the template code that adds the pages to the tracking category.
- With this procedure, we will be able to add all the variant names that you proposed without making any unwanted changes to article content. However, it will take a little time, and require some work on your part. By the way, this would be a task well-suited to AutoWikiBrowser. Leave me a message on my talk page if you would like access to it. Best — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 12:49, 26 June 2013 (UTC)
