Template talk:Current sport-related
This template was considered for deletion on 2008 May 19. The result of the discussion was "Snowball keep". |
I created this template as a version of Template:Current-related for current and related sporting events, using elements from Template:Dab current as well. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 06:02, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
When did Wikipedia become a newspaper? I thought that's what Wikinews was for? 121.45.6.194 (talk) 12:59, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Proposed enhancements
editIn the failed TfD discussion, a couple of comments were made that still bear consideration. First, the image of an (Association) football with a clock face might be inappropriate for two reasons. It is sport-specific, and it suggests an immediacy to the topic that typically isn't there. (e.g. Contents may not "change rapidly".) I suggest replacement or removal of that image. The second comment was that using the ambox-notice
class might be inappropriate because it suggests a temporary problem that ought to be fixed.
In effect, I think we are using summary style on sport team articles and therefore need a navigational template or hatnote to link to the current season. This template needs to look like a navigation aid that is permanently part of each article, instead of a temporary "work in progress" message box. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 23:33, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- With the sports ball, one would need to make a different template for each individual sport if it were to be changed. (baseball, basketball, football, soccer, hockey, racing, etc, etc.) That is, unless it could be designed in such a way to have a changeable picture based on the way the template was added or something. A soccer ball is probably the most "neutral" sport to have on there if only one is used. (being the most popular sport in the world and all) Cardsplayer4life (talk) 00:27, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
- How about just a simple calendar-like image, such as the box to the right:
2007–08 Detroit Red Wings season

- That really doesn't have anything to do with sports though. It could just be a general "current related" at that point. Cardsplayer4life (talk) 01:54, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
- By the way, that would be a fine template to make, and might be a better one to use for more "general" things, but maybe a soccer ball and a calender would be better than a clock? Cardsplayer4life (talk) 02:00, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

This template fails MOSICON
editThe icons here fail Wikipedia:ICONDECORATION and Wikipedia:ICONDECORATION#Do_not_illustrate_or_introduce_unpublished_ideas and as such should be removed Gnevin (talk) 22:55, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
- I think there is a difference between icons that are part of the Wikipedia user interface, and those used in encyclopedia content. I think the manual of style ought to only apply to the latter, which does not include this template. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 00:10, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
- Awe so on the main space but not part of it . That's fair .Gnevin (talk) 00:25, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, I think it should be treated like the icons in {{ambox}} et. al., which are obviously very widely used. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 00:57, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, my understanding is that MOS:ICON does not apply to this and other article message boxes. Zzyzx11 (talk) 02:49, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
