The infobox and improperly applied italics

edit

This infobox italicizes the article title and the header text in |shortname=. While this is an appropriate action for yacht articles, it is not appropriate when the article describes a syndicate, owner, or team as shown the example above and in this talk page's title. Article titles can be manually set to normal upright font with the use of the {{DISPLAYTITLE:}} magic word. The |shortname= can be manually set to normal upright font with the {{no italics}} template.

These manual fixes should not be required. Perhaps a new parameter, |yacht=yes can be used to control font style for the article title and |shortname=.

This template should only be used for Americas Cup syndicates. For individual yachts, the "Infobox Americas Cup Yacht" template should be used instead. So, perhaps, this template should be changed to remove the italicized title. But that still leaves Stars & Stripes (yacht) (and perhaps others) as problematic, since that article describes a series of yachts. Not sure how best to handle that one – perhaps with the nowiki tag as you've described. Mojoworker (talk) 16:00, 7 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
I went ahead and removed the italics in the infobox heading per MOS:ITALIC as well as the "italic title" keyword per WP:ITALICTITLE. That still leaves Stars & Stripes (yacht) question – is it a syndicate or should that article perhaps be renamed to Sail America Foundation? Mojoworker (talk) 16:41, 7 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Template:Infobox Americas CupTemplate:Infobox America's Cup team – this template is about the racing syndicates (teams) in America's Cup, not the cut itself, nor the regattas (competitions), so the name of this infobox is very poor -- 67.70.35.44 (talk) 07:48, 21 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
