Coat of Arms

edit

I've created a new cost of arms. If anyone's good with a vector graphics, perhaps they'd like a go at turning this into a PNG? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mipmapped (talkcontribs) 08:42, 9 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

It is a PNG. You mean, create an SVG file, presumably...
Incidentally, for other editors, this graphic image replaced a photograph of a real coat-of-arms on a coach side. The replacement looks much clearer, and seems 'identical' when compared at thumbnail size on a PC monitor. Don't know whether this creation throws up any issues about verifiability, etc? (Probably not, as I don't think photos, etc abide by the same rules as the text usually!) -- EdJogg (talk) 13:18, 9 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
It looks okay to me; it includes all the important elements. The GWR, in common with most long-lived railways, had several different versions over time and for different applications. Take a look at a copy of Great Western Way if you want chapter and verse on these! Geof Sheppard (talk) 14:08, 9 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Strictly speaking it's not a coat of arms, because no grant of arms was ever made to the GWR by the College of Arms. The railway simply nabbed the existing arms of the cities of London and of Bristol and placed them side by side; this action does not create a new coat of arms, and could be seen as usurpation. --Redrose64 (talk) 18:32, 9 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, of course I meant trace a SVG from the PNG I uploaded. I created it by taking a photo of the 'coat of arms'/logo that my grandfather had - it was decal on wood. I then spent many hours cleaning up the image. I am happy to provide the original photo for the purposes of verfication. Sorry just to clarify - this is entirely my own work. It's not derivative of anything else. (Other than the original decal!) --Mipmapped (talk) 14:03, 12 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
