Improve box
editSince this appears to be the only generic infobox available for historical events that don't otherwise have their own infoboxes (like military events or airplane crashes) it needs to be improved. Right now it looks lousy. Also, what is "Status" supposed to mean? I know I should fix it myself, and I'll try, but, to be honest, I don't really have much experience in editing infoboxes and could use any help that anyone would be willing to give. Gates's address is ascertainable from the name of the street (Ware Street) in this box plus the number "17" visible in the photo (just below this box, but especially if the photo is enlarged) of his arrest. Should we be making this much information public? PhilGaskill (talk) 00:47, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
I have created a related Template:Infobox_Law_Enforcement_Action but having a lot of trouble figuring out how to make it work. Help appreciated - a couple people, including at the talk page, have agreed it is necessary. Thanks CarolMooreDC (talk) 00:46, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
Image size
editIs there a way to un-hardwire the 222px image size? That's a pretty ridiculous requirement when it can easily be manipulated manually to suit the article. Joshdboz (talk) 12:15, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
- Use the variable "px" now to change it on pages, as I improved the template Erwin Springer [talk] 00:06, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Width
editDoes anyone know what to write to make this narrower on a page? SlimVirgin talk|contribs 15:09, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
Usage
editWhere should this template be used? I saw it used on Early modern Europe, not really an event, and on Alexander the Great where it was used as an extra infobox in the death section of the article. Garion96 (talk) 14:19, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
- There's a long thread about that at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (infoboxes)#Dispute over single articles having multiple infoboxes.
- The end conclusion/summary is precisely that: this template needs some usage-instructions added to it. (For which I personally have no good input at the moment. But that's what the thread concluded :) -- Quiddity (talk) 18:45, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
- Interesting read. Common sense would work, except for the fact that according my common sense it should never have been placed on the articles I removed it from today. :) Maybe stating that an event does not last longer than a year (therefore excluding usage on Early modern Europe) and that, in general, this infobox should not be used on articles if there already is an infobox there. Garion96 (talk) 19:38, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
- Those 2 points seem clear and correct to me (and can be fine-tuned later if needed). I Support :)
- And q:Common sense has all the aphorisms I was trying to remember, and more... -- Quiddity (talk) 20:35, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

- I took a stab at the documentation page Template:Infobox Historical Event/doc, I hope I didn't act prematurely. Needs a look for style and content, I will step aside from here. Sswonk (talk) 14:48, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- Looks good to me. Garion96 (talk) 17:57, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Image size
editDoes anyone know how to increase the image size on this infobox? I've tried the usual ways and nothing seems to work. SlimVirgin talk|contribs 23:46, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Sswonk, Thumperward fixed this a few days ago, but whatever you did there changed it back to where it was—so that image sizes couldn't be changed—so I reverted. SlimVirgin talk|contribs 14:07, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
- Re: revert: I did not see that the Thumperward change was made. I revised the infobox template to allow either "px=" or "Imagesize=" to adjust the image size. Per my explanation above, please use "Imagesize=" in the future as it is documented and less confusing. "px=" will be deprecated once I check and revise all of the articles other than 1948 Palestinian exodus from Lydda and Ramla that might use it. The change I made was designed to avoid confusion and give the parameter a clearer name, however doing so stepped on your toes which I regret. I wouldn't have done it that way if the thread had been updated to show that your question had been answered. Thanks – Sswonk (talk) 19:33, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
Custom fields proposal
editI propose adding custom fields similar to Template:Infobox Disney ride. This would allow usage on articles such as Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear to move the awkward subtitles for "Featured guests" and such to labels on the left of the box. —UncleDouggie (talk) 05:28, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
