RfC announce: Religion in infoboxes
editThere is an RfC at Template talk:Infobox#RfC: Religion in infoboxes concerning what should be allowed in the religion entry in infoboxes. Please join the discussion and help us to arrive at a consensus on this issue. --Guy Macon (talk) 17:38, 4 January 2016 (UTC)
Created?
editI don't know why the word "Created" appears in the infobox (created rabbi, created rebbe, created hazzan etc). Can someone please explain? It doesn't seem to be in the template but it appears in the infobox. Can someone remove it? It seems to be superfluous.238-Gdn (talk) 21:36, 8 April 2017 (UTC)
- The editor who created this template is no longer active on Wikipedia. I am afraid this page will not attract much discussion.
- "Created" is in the code of the template for 4 parameters: "Rabbi", "Rebbe", "Kohan" (which probably means "Kohen") and "Hazzan". The only reason I didn't remove it yet, is because I am still trying to understand why it is there in the first place. Perhaps we should look how it is used in other articles. Debresser (talk) 23:56, 8 April 2017 (UTC)
- I added a tracking category, and the usage is as follows: Yehoshua Hartman mentions his rabbi, Dario Hunter a date, Avraham Chaim Naeh a redlinked rebbe, Shlomo Riskin his rabbi, Aryeh Stern a year, Baruch Taub "yes" to kohan, Ron Yosef a year, Eliyahu Zini three of his rabbis, Simon Glazer "yes" to rabbi. Debresser (talk) 06:27, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
- I would have guessed that "created rabbi" would mean a date or year, as apparently 3 out of 9 editors did as well, if not that one can not be "created" a kohen. If to indicate who their rabbi/rebbe was, then that doesn't fit with either hazzan or kohen. I have therefore come to the conclusion that these parameters were supposed to be used to indicate what type of Jewish leader the person is, a rabbi, rebbe, kohan or hazzan, and the correct usage is "yes", as in two cases above. This seems also indicated by the "other_posts" parameter. By the way, no idea what the "rank" parameter is supposed to stand for. Perhaps it was copied from another template which served as inspiration for this one. Debresser (talk) 06:35, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
- I'd recommend to eliminate all 6 parameters mentioned above, and for the 9 cases which use it (10 if we count Yitzchak Ginsburgh which you recently added), just to make sure the information in those parameters is available elsewhere in the article (including other parts of the infobox). Debresser (talk) 06:38, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
- Update: the "other_posts" parameter is in active and good use on a least 8 articles, and removing it seems a bad idea. The "rank" parameter however seems not to have any usage. Debresser (talk) 00:53, 12 April 2017 (UTC)
- Update: the "rank" parameter had one instance, which I replaced by the more appropriate "title". Debresser (talk) 16:13, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

Can someone please help sort out the text that appears in this template, as per above discussion? Be good! 238-Gdn (talk) 13:28, 18 July 2017 (UTC)
- What is the question. "sort out" is a tad on the vague side, I'm afraid. Debresser (talk) 15:19, 18 July 2017 (UTC)
- I have removed the "created" parameters, as they don't seem to be at all helpful. If anyone wishes to make appropriate adjustments to the articles in which the infobox is used in view of this change, they are free to do so. I am not making any changes to the other parameters, as I am not clear enough what they are for, but since you appear to know more about them than me, why don't you deal with it? Native name
editI have noticed that Infobox Jewish Leader doesn't support native_name & native_name_lang. Can we add these fields?
- Done Debresser (talk) 18:21, 8 February 2020 (UTC)
- There seems to still be an issue with the infobox and these parameters. I tried adding them at Abraham Gedalia and keep getting the following error:
Preview warning: Page using Template:Infobox religious biography with unknown parameter "native-name-lang" Preview warning: Page using Template:Infobox religious biography with unknown parameter "native-name"
I think we should merge this page with Infobox religious biography איתן קרסנטי (talk) 13:52, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
works and main_work fields do not work
editHello, there appears to be an issue with this template. The contents of the field "main_work" are not rendered into the page, nor is the "works" field inherited from "Religious biography" .
I second the suggestion to merge this template with Infobox religious biography. Whizkin (talk) 09:15, 3 August 2024 (UTC)
