Units for weight
editRemind and check that everybody remembers to put kilograms or pounds on "weight", or perhaps use a magic template to kill two birds with one stone. Jidanni (talk) 20:02, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
New parameter alias
editWay back when the world was young, before TemplateData and template documentation pages, User:Glen created this template with |yesorretiredyear=
as the name of the parameter for the "Active" data row, hoping for it to be self-documenting. (Actually, it was originally called |yesorno=
, but was quickly extended to accept a year of retirement.)
In the decade and a half since that time, what's happened is that the details of the parameter name have been largely ignored, but the terrible name has stuck around. A quick, informal survey of the transclusions of this template showed that a few contain either "Yes" or "No" for the |yesorretiredyear=
value, more contain a "Retired YYYY" value, but many, many more follow other conventions. For example, a date range, "Since YYYY", or more complex details.
Many other articles contain no Active data at all, even for fairly well-covered subjects, which I have to think may come down to the editors of those pages having no idea how to fill in a parameter named |yesorretiredyear=
and just ignoring it.
So, in the spirit of WP:BOLD, I've added a parameter |active=
to the infobox as the preferred alias for |yesorretiredyear=
, though the legacy name is still accepted. |active=
will take priority, though, and I've updated the documentation examples to reflect this fact, and to mention that |yesorretiredyear=
is now a legacy alias. -- FeRDNYC (talk) 02:21, 26 December 2020 (UTC)
