Template talk:Infobox college volleyball team

AIWA

edit

Prior to the NCAA taking on the administration of women's sports and championships in 1981, the AIWA and its regional affiliates conducted regional and national championships in intercollegiate women's volleyball. In 1981, schools could compete in either the AIWA and NCAA and both organizations held championships, but by 1982, only the NCAA remained.

I have therefore added AIWA to the field titles for the NCAA Tournament Champions, Runners Up, Final Four, Elite Eight, Sweet 16, and Tournament Appearances. For simplicity and space, I did not add additional fields (just adding AIWA to the exiting infobox field titles), and although the AIWA did not have and identical tournament structure like the one-and-done NCAA tournament, as there were losers brackets, the teams did finish with specific places which can fit into the the existing top 2, 4, 8, and 16 designations for the NCAA tournament. I also added a field for Regional AIWA tournament appearances sponsored by the regional affiliate of the AIWA, for instance the EAIWA in the East. The champion of these regional tournaments advanced to the national AIWA, thus serving a role similar to early NCAA rounds today.

Because there are many more varsity women's college volleyball teams than men, and most college volleyball articles are on women's teams, I have directed edited this template. I have also made a new template for men's volleyball which is identical to the previous one without mention of the AIWA at Template:Infobox men's college volleyball team.

Please give any comments as to the additions I have made, or revert if you feel them inappropriate. CrazyPaco (talk) 09:09, 20 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
