Name too broad?
editWhy is the infobox for 'fictional vehicles' seemingly tailored purely toward space ships? I am considering building a fictional automobile template, and use of the word 'vehicle' in this infobox seems overly broad since it seems only to apply to space-faring vehicles. - I am apathetic about a rename, which you seem to suggest as a solution. However, would it instead be worth considering expanding the template to include appropriate fields for cars? It looks like most of the current fields wold be appropriate for cars, planes, robots, etc. --EEMIV (talk) 23:15, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
- Appropriate sections might be a good idea. Have the main box for genre-neutral info (universe, designer, manufacturer, etc), along with sub-templates for the type of vehicle. See here [1] for VG character sub-templates as examples. Bakkster Man (talk) 18:41, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
Population volume
editOne of the parameters is called "population_volume", which renders as e.g. Population volume 1 pilot. What is population_volume supposed to mean? The notes for the parameter say "The number of personnel that are present on-board the vehicle." Wouldn't a better (display) name be "Crew" or "Crew Size"? DDFoster96 (talk) 10:13, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
You are invited to join the discussion at Template talk:Infobox character § Propose removal of the Color parameter. It is currently being discussed whether to remove the |color=
parameter from infoboxes about fictional characters and elements. InfiniteNexus (talk) 21:02, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
Creator vs in-universe creator
editA lot of articles, particularly for space vehicles, have been using the creator tag to list the vehicle's in-universe creator, despite its location indicating it's meant to be the actual person who made the vehicle. If the in-universe origins of a vehicle are that important, I think a separate tag for its in-universe creator should be made while the creator tag is left for real people (or trim a lot of the in-universe stuff). Also I don't know if it might be useful to have separate creator and designer tags like Infobox character has, like when a vehicle is created by a movie's writer but someone else designs its appearance or model. E: I went ahead and added these and fixed some of the pages listing fictional entities as the vehicle creators. I do think there might be a few too many entries here - I'm not usually a fan of cutting info, but does Wikipedia really need to note that the Millennium Falcon has "8× Arakyd ST2 concussion missile racks"?
